La Viuda De Jose Ignacio

We stayed 4 nights in Febuary after travelling in Uruguay and were alarmed at the touristy side of Jose Ignacio. Its very busy at this time of year. However, hotel is self contained and is about 3km away with an unpopulated beach opposite. A car is important though son you can travel further afield. The staff at the hotel are excellent and even produce a limited choice menu if you want to stay for an evening meal. Breakfasts were excellent too.Staff even helped sort out a flat tyre on my car and gave some excellent ideas as to what else to do in the area. e.g. sculpture park. The hotel however could do with a little investment in maintenance. But just ask, and if a problem can be fixed it will! That you Ricardo and Daniel.

This hotel has nothing to do with its website. The entire establishment could use a big refurbish, it’s is all very rundown, in need of repairs and a good lick of paint, the staff are kind and the location is suitable if you need a peaceful retreat.

Had a lovely time staying at la viuda de Jose Ignacio- the hotel was over some sand dunes from a huge unspoiled beach. We borrowed mountain bikes to cycle to the nearby lagoon and also into Jose Ignacio where we went to the secluded beach . We stayed in November before the main tourist season so you have to be aware only certain places in the town open - in the main season there would be many lovely restaurants to go to and vineyards to visit. We hired a car for the 2 days of our visit which was very helpful as the hotel is 4 km outside the town . You can also get the bus from Montevideo or Punte del Este. Staff at the hotel were lovely and very attentive - breakfast was very nice. The hotel was quirky with lovely artwork from the gallery in town displayed - would recommend

“We stayed one week at the hotel in December 2017. The location is great, just meters from the beach and spectacular sites for bicycling, horseback riding in the dunes and kite boarding. Breakfast was served early in the morning and continued for hours if so desired. There was champagne, home made fruit juices, cookies and cakes in addition to the traditional eggs and toast. The pool was lovely and had very comfortable lawn chairs. As well there were towels galore, umbrellas and chairs available for the beach, The staff was extremely accommodating, very helpful and courteous, and always available to provide information about the area and make reservations at any restaurant in the town. Our stay exceeded our expectations. This is a charming, well kept property impeccably decorated and furnished with very nice artwork. We will definitely go back.

If you want a tranquil, charming, comfortable place to stay in Punta Del Este, this is the place. We have 3 teenagers and they loved it too. They could walk to the beach, there are bikes, San Jose Ignacio is minutes away. Perfect. It is only recommended to have a car so you can easily get to La Barra or Punta Del Este, OR you can hire a convis or uber. Will return for sure if possible. VM California

We spent 4 nights at the hotel in December. It was a mixed experience. The positives were friendly and helpful staff plus a good, reasonably priced winelist. The hotel is 300m from a secluded beach and the hotel offers guests chairs and umbrellas for the beach. In the area of the hotel there are also a couple of amazing restaurants. The negatives were that the hotel is dated. It is also slightly further out of town than what we would have hoped. We did go in peak season which pushed up prices and made it seem expensive for us. It did not feel like value for money for us.

Everyone else commented on the service of Ricardo and his staff, and it is good. I just did not like this hotel. The rooms are from a different decade, it reminds of an upmarket motel. From the linen to the furniture. I just did not feel at home here. It is close to a beautiful secluded piece of beach and their wine selection is good and very affordable. It was expensive over the festive season to stay here and I found it hard to justify the cost as we stayed in another hotel in Punta Del Este straight after this one and had a completely different / better experience at the same cost.

Sao todos muito prestativos e atenciosos. Mas o café da manhã é o mesmo todos os dias. Sugestão mudar os tipos de paes a cada dia.
