Albergo Rossini 1936

We enjoyed a wonderful stay with kind and friendly staff who looked after us. Tea making facilities provided on request - very important to us. Central location on the lovely university sector and close to the major sites. But most of all, the warm atmosphere made our stay special.

This is a nice place run by a nice helpful staff. Our check-in was by an effervescent woman, who readily provided us with a map and area restaurant guide. We chose this hotel because we thought the opera, I Pagliacci, was to be held nearby at the Teatro Comunale. The staff helped us get to the temporary location at the Comunale Nouveau. This required a lesson in how to call a taxi from the hotel's helpful staff. Since we arrived early and our Junior Suite was not ready, we agreed to upgrade to the Master Suite. This had two small rooms versus the JS which had a large room with two chairs at the end of the bed. The Suite had a nice waterfall and vertical jet shower. I am a very early riser so I was able to wander the University District well before dawn. We were only a 10-minute walk from the lively historic Piazza Maggiore. This was at Christmas so there were only a few guests and the place completely emptied out on Christmas Day, but the staff kept the hotel open just for us. Tom Benjamen, the author of a mystery series set in Bologna describes the area as "the epicenter of Bologna's student life, drugs trade, and home of the first opera house built from public funds in I 763." We, however, were there while most students had gone home for the holidays. There is one BIG unfortunate downside to this hotel's location. It is next to the site of Bologna's open-air drug market: Piazza Verdi.

The hotel location was great , very central . The staff were very friendly and helpful . Breakfast was brilliant .Only problem was our room smelt damp and was very cold when we first arrived . It finally warmed up in the evening once the heating came on

Helpful staff. Great breakfast. We expected a better area. Lots of crime and rowdiness.

We really enjoyed our stay here. The staff is friendly and helpful, and the room was very nice, clean and modern. Laundry was available but very expensive. Breakfast was terrific, with custom made coffee drinks and a nice buffet, as well has hot dishes to order. Our only issue is the surroundings. Very noisy and youthful university area that is rocking and rolling 24 hours per day. While we never felt unsafe, the street right outside the hotel is dirty and graffiti laden, and often smelled of urine. It seems to be an area that the hotel has built in expecting a resurgence. I hope it happens because they are really good. If I return to Bologna I will stay more centrally downtown.

Unfortunately, the pictures online got us excited but upon arrival we were very disappointed! The lounge had 4 chairs and they served drinks until 9:30. The location after dark is down right scary!!!
