"Lovely setting, maybe some upgrading would make it a stunning hotel."

8.0

Lovely location with views over the River Tweed set in beautiful grounds. Overall the hotel is nice, the room where we had breakfast was lovely but I’m unsure why they don’t use it for evening dining as well as it still has the character that fits with the building. The evening dinner was served downstairs and they didn’t appear to have enough tables. Even though we booked dinner, we still had to wait for a table when our allocated time came.

The bedroom was quite small and had poor lighting. It seemed like the bathroom had been recently refurbished and everything was clean but the fixtures and fittings (toilet roll holders etc. were very cheap quality). There was tea & coffee in the room but the cups were very small, larger ones or mugs would be better. There was only one small packet of biscuits between two. For the price, I would have expected slightly better quality.

The beds were comfortable and the staff were friendly and helpful

The decor is tired, the shower was poor, the towels were stained, the breakfast was ok at best and it was expensive
