"Changed hands - barely functioning. "

I gather this place has changed hands recently. It's a stretch to call it a hotel, it's more like apartment rooms. The rooms would have been basic even for a hotel. They are clean and there is hot water and tea facilities but the beds are bumpy and the floors are creaky. The most striking thing is that reception is basically barricaded off by old food trolleys and there are no staff to be seen. Despite plaguing you with emails and WhatsApp messages you'll find it nigh impossible to reach anybody out of hours. The byzantine electronic Yale lock on the doors is temperamental and the front door is totally screwed so you'll have to hope somebody inside hears your attempts and lets you in. Throughout our stay somebody had kindly left the back door open so guests and anybody passing by can all get in. It's a nice enough area with busy nightlife and I'm sure this was once a decent hotel, but as a collection of sort of serviced rooms with nobody caring about stuff like a broken front door it is not functioning. Every guest we met was utterly peed off with it. Look out for being asked for a large security deposit for your room too. If we have any trouble getting ours back I'll update my review when we've seen how far we have to go to get it!

"This property is now derelict"

I booked this hotel for 2 nights following great reviews that I have read online I guess I was very unlucky as the management changed a few days prior to my arrival and found the property without any staff at all. It's now a company called 'Luke Stays'. They send you dozens of confusing emails before your arrival and before check-out they send you more emails to ask at what time you're leaving the hotel (basically the earlier you move out the better) and that I should inform housekeeping once I leave (how can I inform housekeeping if there is no staff at the hotel?) You would have to enter the property via a back door that you are given via email. They then sent an email saying that I would be in room 202, then another email for room 204, then again another email from 202. They sent me codes for both when I only had booked one room ..... During my 36H stay I had 3 different guests that were double booked into my room, including someone that tried to enter my room at 2am. Those people had access codes my room because management had given them the codes and checked them in into my room. Needless to say I felt very unsafe at the property (despite it being located in a very nice area) They are a company based in Dubai and then only work during office hours. If something happens or someone is double booked into your room and tries to enter it at 2am then there's nobody to talk to in the middle of the night (I wonder where those guests stayed once they saw in the middle of the night that the room was occupied by me). It felt akward to stay there for 2 nights knowing that at least 3 different people had access to my room. I didn't leave any valuables in the room whilst I was away (the hotel does not operate a key system, you get access codes to your room via email) Requested a full refund. Booking.com have contacted them but they haven't responded. Booking.com have given me £20 as a goodwill gesture from them but the property hasn't refunded me anything. Still waiting.

"Do not book!"

We arrived and could not gain access to the hotel.The door was boarded up and the hotel was empty.Having spoken to staff at the neighbouring hotel, we were not the first people that day that had the same issue.Seemingly the hotel had been having issues with staff.i am awaiting a response and a refund.Do not book this hotel!!!!

"Avoid at all costs"

This hotel changed hands in April the day before I arrived. There is no receptionist. The reception area is shrouded in sheets. Only a code to check in. Which didn’t work for me Any problems are dealt with via Dubai!! On arrival other guests were in my room. Eventually was given another room and walked in on other guests. Third room had no adequate bedding and when I found the cleaners next day to ask for another duvet and a cover I was told the linen cupboard was bare. Asked for a refund via booking.com and complained to hotel direct. Still waiting!

"3rd room lucky"

Booked the hotel and breakfast for a 1 night stay we didn’t expect 5* but at the least a cleaned room. On arrival we eventually managed to get through the coded front door and our first impressions were that it was actually closed. There was not a staff member in sight and the front desk was dark. After using the code we were given to get into our room it was clear that it had not been cleaned from the previous guests (wet towels, used bedsheets ect). we used the online chat service and were given another room, it was clear that room 2 was also in a very similar (possibly slightly worse) state than the first. Our 3rd room had been cleaned (or not used the night before) there were tea and coffee facilities in the room but no mugs, the handle on the window was broken and the sink wouldn’t drain. The following morning we went down for breakfast and again there were no staff and no breakfast frustrating when you have booked bed and breakfast. Luckily, there was an amazing bagel cafe around the corner that sorted us out. Book somewhere else.

"Don't stay"

We had booked 2 rooms for 22/04. Having previously lived in Jesmond I was looking forward to being back but we did not have a pleasant experience at all. We booked 2 rooms for the three of us. When we arrived we were surprised to see there was no reception, no sight of any staff just a code lock to get in. We looked through our emails to find the code for the door and proceeded to try unlock the front door about 15 times before we gave up and rang the number on the emails. The man on the phone kept giving us the same code that we already had, that we kept trying with no luck. No exaggeration, we must have tried the code about 100 times and still no response. Thankfully it was a lovely day so spirits didn't diminish too much, it would have been another story if the weather wasn't so good. After 50 minutes the code miraculously worked and we got into the hotel. Again, surprised to see no staff or any sight of life. Our rooms were on the first and second floor. We arrived at the first door and attempted to enter the code that had been sent to us. Again, this code did not work. We tried it many times and still nothing. We then went to try our other room but the cleaners were working. Thank goodness for the cleaners!! We explained that the code for our first room wasn't working. Thankfully she had a list of codes for the rooms and the code we were given was incorrect, nowhere near the actual code so it couldn't have even been a typo. I'm not sure what we would have done if the cleaners weren't there. We wouldn't have minded the airbnb style if we knew that's what we were expecting and if the codes worked. We won't be staying at this hotel again which is a shame because the location is great and the actual property itself is fine (for students)

"Doesn’t even deserve 1 star. Dingy and unwelcoming"

As you can see from the photos this is the reception as you walk in. No one around the whole night, no one to show to room or even a happy face to greet you to the hotel. If there were problems we had to ring a number and sort it over the phone. You cannot get through straight away had to try multiple times and when we did get through the person cannot speak much English so therefore hard to understand. No electricity, had to use any card in the slot to have electricity. Be it ID cards, bank cards ect anything that would fit. Another weary thing about this hotel as could quite easily copy the information from these cards. Toilet constantly flushed. Barely get past the bottom of the bed. Toilet like a wet room so once been in the shower had to wait for floor to dry before using toilet. Radiator that is absolutely scalding on the wall of the shower that you couldn’t turn off so when turning round it is very easy to burn yourself which we both did. All night could here people trying to get into the hotel because of the stupid code system they have instead of card and if there were receptionists this wouldn’t have been the case. There is a hand written note stuck on the entrance door as you arrive at the hotel to tell you how to use the machine that lets you in and to your room. So this is why the doors were being bashed and shook all night as I can imagine after having a drink it would be frustrating to use. Room not up to standard. Marked walls because you can’t move so things have been scraped across it. Bed was like a water bed as soon as you sit on it it shook. The front door is boarded up so obviously been smashed. Was first emailed with the code for one room then on the day of arrival was sent a second code for a different room which is extremely ridiculous as I therefore had access to more than one room. How was I to know that this hadn’t happened to someone else in the hotel and they then had the code for our room.

"Avoid this place at all costs."

Couldn’t stay longer than an hour. This place is an absolute dive. There’s no-one at the front desk, the door codes only work half the time, the carpets are covered in sawdust, there’s no electricity in the rooms, there’s no towels. We booked a hotel down the road so we didn’t have to ruin our weekend. AVOID.
