Canh Dieu Hotel

The brother and sister who run reception will bend over backwards to help you. Ninh Binh isn't the greatest spot in the world, but as a base to explore the surrounding countryside this hotel will suit your needs. Really close to the train station too. Try out their food as well, good eats for a low price.

The hotel is situated right on the railway line. There are trains coming through the night and as they enter the station right behind the hotel the horn is sounded a number of times. Not good for sleeping, the front rooms are a little quieter. The rooms were clean but the beds were the hardest we have ever slept on. The tour run by the hotel was a non English speaking driver who just drove us to places, left us there to look around alone & picked us up. No explanation of what we were looking at nor any information about the region. Hardly a tour, just a driver. Would suggest you go with a tour company as the area is lovely but would have been better if we had someone to tell us more about the region. The young man & woman who run the hotel are really lovely and the food was really good. The town is very limited in what it has to offer & is great for a local experience. The markets were great & no hawkers. A real pleasure to wander through. Glad we went as it is certainly a unique place & a real taste of small town Vietnam.

I stayed one night but received a great service during my stay. The room was of average size, the plumbing sound (best I saw during my trip), air-con, bed and fans in good condition. Canh Dieu itself backs onto the Ga / Gare / Rail Station in Ninh Binh (the hotel is the highest building you can see nearby the station on the opposite side of the tracks, clearly signed) but has secondary glazing which blocks out much of the sound. There's a broad breakfast menu, cooked fresh (though no continental buffet etc), and lots of tour and hiring options available; taxi, scooter and bike hire or guided tours. I personally hired a single-speed bike which was solid and withstood a rain-soaked run of around 6-7 miles (not much, but bumpy). The greatest asset of the hotel is its staff; they offered me a shower when I returned to pick up my bags (despite having checked out already) and helped me out with tickets and passport difficulties. I only wish it had been possible for them to open up their roof terrace and allow guests to savour the view from it (the terrace/cafe/restaurant was closed off entirely). The warmest

I have stayed here for two nights. I known there were lots of landscapes in Ninh Binh and I planned my tour when I was there. I have wanted to go to Tamcoc(like Halong bay) to take my experience on a small boat, I have booked a trip to Tamcoc but finally failed to make the trip. Hung (Hotel manager) has introduced me to another place that I have never knew, it was Trang An. It was a fantastic place. We were extremely excited and felt so right in choosing this place. In addition, we also climbed Mua cave with a panoramic view. After a hard day we returned to the hotel and surprisingly, the glass of cool water back to us with a smile again. Their services were great, you could only receive such services in the 4-5 star hotels but at much cheaper prices. It was worth to recommend.

We have spent a wonderful holiday, friendly and full of happiness. The staffs were very friendly and they helped us everything, they booked our train tickets and they took us to railway station to go to Hue by their motors. After we left I realized I had forgotten a book that I like, I thought it was lost forever. Unexpectedly, I received Hung's mail, who runs the hotel, he informed me about my book, and he asked my hotel address in Hue for return. It was lovely. One family was kind and hospitable. I would be back here in my next trip.

We stayed for 2 nights in the cheapest room. The staff at the hotel really make the place, they recommended things to do in Ninh Binh that didn't break the bank and drove us to the bus station for free. Its definitely worth renting one of their motorbikes and heading out into the countryside.

If you are basing yourself in Ninh Binh for visits to Cam Toc or the National Park then this is a clean hotel very close to the bus and train station in a non touristy town. The hotel staff who are one family go out of their way to ensure you have all that you need. We were given cold water when heading out for the day and even fresh rolls for our train trip back to Hanoi with a lift to the station. The rooms have air conditioning, small but clean bathrooms but the beds are very firm. As the hotel is on the train line there are a couple of trains that go by during the night but the rest if the time it is quiet. The menu is basic for breakfast but for the price it is superb value. The evening menu is decent and the food good, again excellent value. The hotel organized a driver for us for two days in a very good four wheel drive.
