The Residence Maldives

The staff are amazing - always smiling, always very friendly and helpful. The room (water bungalow with pool) was incredible. The housekeeping staff including Francis were excellent. The food in the dining room was great and the staff there - Ishan, Shani, Nahil, Hazrat, Suhana were all lovely. I had a massage in the spa with Sanjay who was amazing. The snorkelling along the reef is absolutely beautiful and we had free use of snorkels, fins and life jackets.

The meat at times wasn't amazing - you could tell it wasn't fresh - but I understand that it has to get imported to the island so it's not fresh that day. We weren't aware of all the restaurants and things on offer on the island - we felt that the lobby or information back we were given at check in could have been clearer and a little more thorough. Also when we arrived we were told most of the restaurants were booked up for our stay - but no-one had contacted us before our trip to say we should pre book which was frustrating.

The staff is really polite.

The all-inclusive food just sucks. Maximum 4 stars with a minus. Rats are running around on the island. Everything is in a dead state. You have to wait two hours for lunch. One of the worst hotels in the Maldives where we have been. It's a waste of money for Christmas dinner.

Fantastic sunset villa with stunning view and privacy, lovely attentive staff, accommodation exceeded expectations, island is easy to go around, very relaxing, staff works very hard to keep place in pristine conditions and that guests have a fantastic time. Ideas for improvement: have daily snorkeling group excursions and orientation, offer even more variety for lunch menu

We were on the FB meal plan and the food options were good with access to all restaurants and only a supplement to pay if you chose certain meals. Room was good size. Could put our 16 year old in the living room area so didn’t all have to be in one room. Bikes provided for everyone to get around the islands is really fun and convenient. We used a gold buggy once, the rest of the time we cycled.

It’s a plane and a boat from Male which means lots of waiting around. We were in an over water bungalow and I feel this was a scam. In the ‘sunrise villas’ it is virtually impossible to swim off them, so essentially a waste of money. The water is too shallow and the sea bed is sea grass and coral. Due to this you don’t get that classic Maldives blue sea view - it’s grey! The upside of this is the potential to see sea life but the way the villa decks are laid out and the shallowness of the water really prohibits that. The beaches are very corally so the ability to wander is soft sand into the sea is not there.

The staff are incredibly helpful and cannot do enough for you. The rooms are large and comfortable and the islands are large to spend time exploring
