Ambong Rainforest Retreat

We just completed 3 nights at Ambong Ambong. It was a fantastic experience. Lovely hotel and setting, exactly what we were looking for to be extremely comfortable, surrounded by the sights and sounds of the rainforest! It’s a really well appointed hotel in a great location, with everything you need for a luxurious stay. All the staff were so welcoming and friendly, and made sure that we had what we needed at all times. They really went out of their way to ensure we had a great time and provide excellent service. The food was excellent in all restaurants on the property, wonderful selection, well prepared. I’d be delighted to come back anytime. You won’t be disappointed if you decide to stay here :-)

We had a lovely stay at the rainforest retreat. In the midst of the jungle and with the background noise of the jungle, definitely a must visit place. A perfect break and a wonderful stay. A very special mention to Prem and his team at Abong. They are the true gems of abong starting from the pickup, restaurant and every staff in abong is more than welcoming and ready to assist and make your trip memorable. Highly recommended and will definitely come back.

What an absolute dream it has been to stay at the Among Rainforest Retreat. We stayed at the Singa Room with a magnificient view of the jungle and the sea. And yes, you will see some monkeys during your stay (but don’t worry, they don’t care about you if you don’t have food). But what really made the whole experience unique and magical was the staff. They are the kindest, hard-working and generous people you can find around here. A massive thank you to M. Nizal, Lee, Iba & Khai and the whole team for their kindness and making sure our time here was memorable. Words can not describe how thankful we are to have met such beautiful souls. If you hesitate to book a trip to Among because of its price, it’s worth every single cents.

We stayed for 4 nights in a suite. The suite is large, comfortable, clean and very well air conditioned. Drinking water and soft drinks are provided daily and change of towel (definitely needed for the heat and humidity!). Breakfast available at 2 restaurants and was okay. There is a small pool although we didn’t use it. Staff are very polite and friendly.

Such a lovely stay here - no complaints whatsoever. Stayed for three nights, staff were excellent and responded to whatever we needed. Close to beach and local area (no problem getting taxis) also got to see lots of monkeys! Room was clean and well air conditioned, bed was comfortable and a nice shower too. Have recommended already to others to stay here!

A Serene, Impeccably Run Retreat in the Heart of the Rainforest We recently stayed at Ambong Rainforest Retreat and had an exceptional experience from start to finish. Our villa was immaculately clean and thoughtfully maintained, with two spacious bedrooms—one with a double bed and the other with twin beds—alongside a large living and kitchenette area. The villa also had a lovely outdoor balcony, where we spent tranquil moments watching wildlife, including monkeys, geckos, and the rhythmic chorus of rainforest crickets. Cleanliness & Comfort: The housekeeping was excellent. Our villa was serviced daily, and we received an evening turndown as well. Everything from the bedding to the bathrooms was spotless. The air conditioning worked reliably and kept the space very comfortable throughout our stay. Service: The staff were consistently gracious, helpful, and efficient. Lee deserves special mention—he looked after us with warmth and care, helping us move around the resort’s hilly terrain with ease and always ready with a smile. We also want to thank Prem, who greeted us each morning at Rimba Restaurant and kindly offered suggestions for activities, even helping to arrange water sports for our son. The team at breakfast, especially the young gentlemen serving at Rimba, were also unfailingly kind and attentive, ensuring we were always well looked after. Dining: We had access to multiple restaurants—the Rimba restaurant, the on-site Japanese and vegan restaurants, and the rooftop bar area at Ambong Pool Villas. Breakfast, which was included in our package, was served in the serene setting of Rimba and featured fresh fruit and a choice of three different breakfast styles. We also tried the vegan breakfast on one day, which was equally enjoyable. Wildlife & Ambience: The natural surroundings are truly special. From the balcony, we could observe monkeys, colourful birds, and geckos, all while soaking in the calm of the rainforest. The experience felt peaceful, immersive, and a world away from daily life. Transport & Location: Although the resort is set on a hillside, getting around was made easy with the efficient buggy service. Staff were always quick to respond when we needed a lift to the restaurants or back to our villa after an outing. Final Thoughts: Ambong Rainforest Retreat offers more than a comfortable stay—it offers a deeply restorative experience rooted in nature and elevated by genuinely caring hospitality. It’s ideal for families, couples, or anyone looking to unwind in a beautiful, biodiverse setting. Highly recommended.

We had booked to stay 4 nights, and it was really beautiful, however we hadn't bargained for the steepness of the site. If you have mobility issues this is not the place for you! There were 134 steps up to our room from reception l which was not to our liking, however, in fairnes the staff were more than willing and frequently did offer to drive us (and all guests) up and down to the room. It is all part of the service they offer, but we didn't like not having the freedom to just wander around easily. Also the bar does not serve any alcohol and we do like a beer! On the positve side, the villas are stunning - spacious and well equipped with lovely beds, linen, a kitchenette and private balcony. Wonderful view over the tree tops down to the sea and plenty of wildlife to look at. So I have rated it 4 stars as it is a wonderful place, just not right for us. We spoke to the manager and he offered us an upgrade to their sister site Ambong Pool Villas which we gratefully accepted as it was much flatter! Great service from the whole team and I will review the Pool villas separately but they were outstanding and we spent the remaining 3 nights there and didn't want to leave.

We stayed for 8 nights and everything was perfect. We stayed in a Canopy Suite, the room was very spacious as was the bathroom and balcony. The staff couldn't do enough for you and nothing was too much trouble. The breakfast in the vegan restaurant is superb. You can also have breakfast at Rimba but we liked the vegan breakfast so much, we didn't feel the need to try Rimba. We did have an evening meal at Rimba, good food and an amazing view of the sunset. It is a very steep walk up the hill, whilst it's doable, it is nicer to get the shuttle which worked very well and we never really had to wait. The amount of wildlife we saw from our balcony was amazing, a troop of Dusky Leaf monkey's and a Giant Black Squirrel being the highlights. There is also a well equipped gym which I put to good use - nice to see the wildlife whilst on the treadmill! We highly recommend Ambong and wouldn't hesitate to stay there again.

An absolutely fantastic place to stay. The staff are warm and welcoming and nothing is too much trouble. We stayed in the Rainforest suite. Sitting out on the balcony amongst the treetops, watching the monkeys and listening to the birds was amazing. The room was immaculate and serviced daily. I visited the spa and had a reflexology foot massage. It was one of the best spa experiences I have ever had and is well worth a visit. We would definitely stay here again. Yes it can be a bit of a trek up the steps to the rooms but it is more than worth it.
