Ambong Rainforest Retreat

A wonderful, serene retreat tucked away in the rainforest but also very accessible to major tourist areas. The staff were exceptional, the food was fantastic, and the amenities - from the outdoor bath, group yoga in the mornings, wee pool, and herb garden - outstanding. Would definitely come back to stay and highly recommend to all travelers!

Overall, we had an amazing stay, the hospitality and nature at Ambong Ambong are outstanding. Our room was exactly as described with great views over the ocean. Yoga classes were complimentary and excellent. Everybody greeted us by name. The only negative experience we have had was the breakfast which most days took a while (>1h) and we also had to cancel once due to lack of time. Other than that, the house keeping, drivers and general atmosphere was excellent and we would certainly come back.

From the moment we arrived, the staff welcomed us with genuine warmth — incredibly friendly and attentive, always ensuring we felt cared for throughout our visit. Our suite offered stunning views of the rainforest canopy, where we could quietly observe wildlife such as playful monkeys, curious squirrels, and vibrant tropical birds — all from a safe and respectful distance, adding a magical dimension to each day. The outdoor bathtub nestled in nature was such a calming indulgence, letting us soak in the scenery while literally soaking in serenity. We started our mornings with yoga, guided by a peaceful and friendly instructor whose presence matched the tranquil surroundings. Practicing surrounded by the sounds of the forest was grounding and restorative. The spa treatment we enjoyed was incredibly relaxing — a true retreat for body and soul that left us feeling refreshed and pampered. Breakfast was a daily highlight: beautifully presented vegan dishes full of flavor and freshness, setting the perfect tone for our adventures ahead. Dining at Rimba restaurant capped off our experience; perched with gorgeous views over the hills and out to the sea. The food was outstanding, and the atmosphere was both elegant and laid-back. We couldn’t have asked for a better sanctuary — Ambong Ambong is a perfect blend of nature, luxury, and heartfelt hospitality. Highly recommended for anyone seeking peace, beauty, and a touch of wild wonder.

What a lovely quaint retreat. The location was clean and the staff were beyond friendly and kind. They did housekeeping twice a day and the dining area for breakfast was so good. I love heels so the shuttle back and forth was very immediate and quick! Azzah was such a sweetheart and very attentive. Highly recommend.

had a wonderful stay at Ambong Ambong Rainforest Retreat. The setting is serene and peaceful, with the calming sounds of the rainforest all around. The room was spacious, clean, and comfortable. What really stood out was the excellent guest service — a special thanks to Nizar for being so friendly, helpful, and welcoming throughout my stay. If I could suggest one improvement, it would be to have better lighting in the room, as it was a bit too dim. Otherwise, a truly relaxing retreat — highly recommended!

Can’t really add much that hasn’t been said before. Prem and his team are simply amazing, so professional, friendly and informative; nothing is too much trouble. The accommodation is excellent and using the pool in the rain surrounded by the jungle was so memorable. The monkeys are so cheeky and provided many laughs. And if you fancy a change of settings you can always use the facilities of its sister hotel across the road; which is even more high end. We tried a few vegan restaurants on the island, during our stay and all were excellent, but for location, presentation and quality, while slightly more expensive, the Ambong rainforest retreat is the best; whether for a one off meal or stay.

Our family of four stayed in one of the 2 bed villas for three nights. We had a truly memorable stay, the staff are so friendly and helpful, the food was fantastic. At the rainforest retreat restaurant (RR) is vegan, I’m not vegan and was surprised how much I enjoyed every meal. Prem and Lee are so helpful, always on hand to give a lift to the Pool Villas or move our luggage. The RR is built on a very steep hillside which I wouldn’t have wanted to carry the luggage up and I think I’m fit! There is a new gym on site, cardio machines and some free weights, my eldest daughter thought it was the best gym of the holiday, good air con and a panoramic view of the jungle. My wife’s favourite part of our stay was the monkeys, there are multiple troops that live in the surrounding rainforest. The black ones are shy but noisy the brown macacs are very cheeky and will steal shoes and food. AA RR is a very special hotel, we loved our stay there for many reasons and would definitely return.
