Arnott's Lodge & Hiking Adventures

Great fit for our trip with college students! Outdoor and indoor accommodation was just as we needed. We were are group of 23 and all tours we went to were great! Mauna Kea is a must, as well as Volcano National Park and Lava fields.

Hilo to me is an agreeably funky place and this accommodation is perfectly in line with that impression. It is set a bit away from the city's downtown, such as it is, in a residential area. The property itself must have once been a residence itself, and is divided into two parts, the original lodge and an annex across the street. We stayed our one night in the annex in a double room, which was equipped with its own bathroom, a microwave and lots of storage space, but no television--for that you had to access a common area, which also had a small kitchen. Definitely the place must have once been a house. The front desk is not open all hours and you have to time your arrival to accommodate this, but the staff member we met was extremely friendly and helpful. Arnott's also runs tours to various parts of the island that leave from the premises, one of which (up Mauna Kea to the observatories) we'd accessed several years prior. All in all Arnott's would probably not be your cup of tea if your idea of a Big Island vacation is the glamorous resorts on the Kona side, but for us the laid-back, peaceful atmosphere was perfect.

A peaceful & quiet location

Siobhan was an amazing front desk clerk. She took me on a tour of the facilities that consists of: an outdoor patio for eating and doing laundry, a TV lounge and also walked me to my suite, showed me where to park and how to get in my room. The suite was awesome! There’s a queen bed, kitchenette well stocked with a larger than usual hotel sized fridge, microwave, rice cooker and most kitchen dishes and utensils. The bathroom was a good size, the shower was large! There’s an office space that has a built in desk and an office chair. There are lots of plugs for charging. The bed was really firm (which I love)! The room was clean and comfortable. It was really quiet, aside from the neighborhood sounds a few times during the night. The grounds are well cared for. My only regret is that it was an overnight stay. I would have liked to enjoy that space a bit more.

Very clean, quiet, and comfortable stay. Staff was really friendly. Easy check in and check out. Beach towel service was a nice perk. We had the family suite which had a full kitchen with everything one would need to prepare a meal and dine in.

It was very cute. I absolutely loved it. We Had 5 Adults and a child. It was very comfortable.

I think TVs in the rooms would not hurt. But it would Not change my mind to stay there that’s what iPads are for.

The property is set up similar to a hostel, with common areas. It is separated from town, but close enough for easy access. I would certainly stay again.
