Great value stay for us - rooms are warm and clean. You can hear some noise from guests next door but for the budget, it’s excellent. The staff were really lovely and friendly. Car park is easy to park in and just opposite the pub.

"Not up to usual standard but well worth a stay"

8.0

I stay here two or three times a year usually. I usually never have any complaints as I love the hotel that much. Great location, great appearance, great staff and great food.

On this occasion the room had cobwebs in the bedroom area and bathroom. The sideboard had coffee stains on and in between the drawers (not fresh). The hotel only had snack food on due to an indoor craft market which took up restaurant area. I had e-mailed the hotel about this (as I left very early next morning) but I have had no reply. I am disappointed with my stay this time.

"Nice enough, but..."

Booked with the lure of roaring fires in the pub: not so, there weren't any logs so no can do... we didn't really want to sit around all evening (as we were staying the night) in our jumpers but so be it. Other people kept their coats on. It was Monday night so maybe no chef but my Asian risotto was a porrigey mess that had no Asian flavours at all and a couple of limp pieces of pak choi that looked like leftovers. My husband's pie had nothing but potato inside and the pie crust was not edible. We just said OK when we were asked about the food because, what are the staff going to do? Offer more of the same? Room was cosy and had heating but certainly was not soundproof, we could hear next door's TV and road traffic noise. Could do better. The staff were fine but the "directors" need a rethink.

"Cannot assess this location against that of regular guesthouses since it isn't set up as such."

6.0

The staff tried to be accommodating given the resources available. The rooms are functional without being particularly distinctive. The Talkhouse is ideal for short stopovers for people in transit or on temporary visits but not for stays beyond three days or so. Quite attractive in appearance however.

It's difficult to move around without transport. Breakfast is served at 10 am which is inconvenient . The staff is young and sometimes had to be asked to provide certain usual facilities eg coffee refills, changed towels, bath soap.No twin beds available.
