Hyatt Place Tempe Phoenix University

Location was very helpful for attending the Innings music festival in Tempe Beach Park. We were able to walk there. The room was smaller than other Hyatt Places I have stayed at, but it had everything we needed. The streetcar being right outside our window did not bother me, but bring earplugs or play white noise if sensitive to that. The breakfast seating area was huge, so we were easily able to find a table each morning. The food itself was a little lacking, but I appreciated that it was refilled in a timely manner, and overall, it was a good hotel breakfast experience.

At 4am all the hotel fire alarms went off in the most blaring and painful sound. At least a hundred customers exited the hotel in mass confusion and the staff had no idea what to do. After several days of trying to get a response I was given 10k points and no refund for the horrible nights stay. The manager could care less about the stress of losing a nights sleep this caused. I was in town for a funeral and this didn’t help. I am officially never staying at a Hyatt again and will proudly support MARRIOTT who has treated me like gold for 25 plus years. Shame on me for trying to branch out to the Hyatt brand. Hyatt has HORRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE and they could care less about or have any empathy for your situation. Bye bye Hyatt!!!

This hotel has an excellent location and is truly one of its strongest selling points. It’s within easy walking distance of Arizona State University, surrounded by great independent restaurants, and even close enough to walk to Trader Joe’s. Based on location alone, I would absolutely consider staying here again. Check-in was mostly smooth using the Hyatt mobile app, and I was able to complete a digital check-in and download a digital key, as I have done successfully at many other Hyatt Place properties. However, upon arriving with all of our luggage and getting into the elevator, I discovered that the digital key does not work for elevator access. This required turning around and going back to the front desk to obtain a physical room key. The same issue applies to the parking structure—you need a physical key to enter and exit. It was confusing and inconvenient, and I’m not sure why digital check-in and digital keys are offered if a stop at the front desk is still required. We booked a room with a king bed and a pullout sofa bed for my husband, our 17-year-old son, and myself while visiting ASU for a campus tour. We have stayed in this room type at other Hyatt Place locations and have always found it spacious and comfortable. Unfortunately, this particular property’s rooms were significantly smaller than expected. Once the sofa bed was pulled out, there was barely enough room to walk to the bathroom. Navigating between the king bed and the sofa bed required carefully squeezing through, which was especially difficult during nighttime bathroom trips. The bathroom itself was another disappointment. The shower pressure was very weak, and water continuously dripped onto the metal plate below throughout the night, which was both annoying and disruptive. Our first room faced the light rail/trolley, and the noise was constant—bells and whistles going off roughly every four minutes kept us awake most of the night. Thankfully, the staff was able to move us to a different room the next day. While we appreciated the room change, the second room was the same small size, as the hotel was sold out and upgrades were not available. Bottom line: The location is fantastic and ideal for visiting ASU, but there are definite trade-offs. If you stay here, request a room on the opposite side of the building away from the train tracks. I would also strongly recommend booking a larger room or suite if possible, as the standard king room with a sofa bed offers very limited space for luggage and basic movement.

Good location near the ASU Tempe campus with easy walking access to restaurants, coffee, and even hiking. The room was clean and nice, comfortable bed, spacious bathroom (with shower, no tub). Everything was well kept and at the level of niceness that I expected. We were there for a tournament weekend and there were several other tournaments happening at the same time so the hotel was full of high school athletes and their families, but it always felt clean, orderly, and accessible. The breakfast was good, with a variety of options. The 8th floor bar and pool area was really nice and I sat out there in the morning after breakfast enjoying the warm (76 in January) weather and reading a book. The front desk staff was kind, courteous, knowledgeable, and helpful.
