At least it was not dirty

Horrible place. It's noisy because it's by the road. Shower does not work well, can't keep the temp. We got lost tryind to find the house bcoz it's not in Kumano Kodo trail. It's 1,5h from K. Kodo. Shino was very rude to us and even hit me when I asked for the wifi password. Better stay at Takahara or in the morning you will have to climb another 1,5hours.

"Hands down the best house I stayed in during my trip. The owner is the best host you could ask for!"

10.0

This was hands down the best house I stayed in the 3 months I solo travelled Japan. The house is gorgeous and has everything you need. The location is not close from the trailhead of the Kumano Kodo but Shino (the owner) organized a free pick up to get me there the morning after. Also the fact that this house is immersed in the countryside made it such a special and unique stay! Words can't describe how incredible Shino is as a host AND as a person! Such a special one, who completely dedicates her soul to her job. The day I stayed in her house it was my birthday and the moment I told her she organized beautiful activities to make my day a special one. And she definitely made it!

Absoutely nothing. This house is a gem.

"Wonderful unique experience of tranquility"

Ugh! What a lovely experience! Quiet, unique, and the host is kind, caring, and the food was delicious! And the driver to the trail was a huge help! Totally different than a hotel and a great experience!

"Comfortable and spacious home with delicious meals"

9.0

The guest house was very spacious, comfortable, and beautiful, located in an old Japanese home. Shino was a wonderful host — she’s very responsive and helpful, she arranged a car back to the trail in the morning, and the meals she prepared for us were delicious. Good stop along the Kumano Kodo trail!

The only thing to be aware of in advance is that this guest house is about 50 minutes away from the Kumano Kodo trail — downhill from Takahara, and uphill back up. But Shino was happy to arrange a ride back to the trail in the morning, so we only made the trek (downhill) one day. But we were prepared for this, and otherwise the stay was perfect.

"Beautiful traditional house"

A beautiful well renovated traditional Japanese house. The host was very friendly and helpful to plan our trips and hike on Kumano Kodo. The breakfast at the café was delicious. We will stay here on our next visit. A wonderful experience!

"Peaceful, quiet and charming traditional little house off the main trail."

10.0

A historic 140 year old house with original features and architecture, full of charm and character. Great place to come to at the end of the first day of walking the Nakahechi trail. Quiet and peaceful. Having the whole house allowed our family of 4 to have privacy and space. The instructions to to access it on the website were clear, and even without it, the location was clearly marked on Google Maps. Communication with the owner, Shino was prompt and responsive. Shino dropped off a delicious dinner when we arrived and breakfast the next morning. The bento lunch was another delicious thing to look forward to on the walk. As a pleasant surprise, Shino arranged for transport back up the hill the next morning after breakfast so we didn’t have to walk back up!

As is noted on the website, the house is at the bottom of the valley and is about a 50 minute walk further along from the main trail on the Takahara ridge. I should add this was not a problem for us as it’s an easy and peaceful walk down. Again we should note Shino arranged for transport back up the hill the next morning after breakfast so we didn’t have to walk back up!

A very lovely house in traditional Japanese style. We were amazed.

A bit far from the kumano kodo path but Shino propose lift to Takahara which is handy.
