Rockliffe Hall

We visited The Club house at Rockcliffe Hall today for Mothers Day. I felt we had to write this review as the service was outstanding. We had a table of 6 overlooking the golf course and you couldn’t ask for a more stunning setting. The wine waiter was so knowledgable and went through everything with us and helped us choose the perfect wine for the meal. Nothing was too much trouble for the staff , they were polite,helpful and very knowledgable on the dishes we picked. The food was presented to the highest of standards and every course tasted amazing . Thank you for making Mothers Day so special and the gift you gave myself and my mum made our day, we will definitely be back. Please can you thank all the staff they re a credit the hotel .

We visited this spa with high hopes of it being the best, but unfortunately it wasn't. Yes it is 5*, but unfortunately the spa didn't really relax us. The saunas were all the same temperature, even though they were supposed to be different. When I sprinkled water over the coals, they just stayed wet and didn't even hiss! The hydro pool area was far from relaxing. There is a pointless water fountain in the middle of the pool, which just made it very noisy! The tiny infra red sauna was like being in a wardrobe, just a bit hotter. Can't say the steam rooms weren't particularly steamy either. Then there was the igloo, this was the best room, but we didn't get hot enough to really need to be in there more than 2 minutes. We paid extra to use the spa garden, the sauna there was a bit hotter, but the heated loungers were not heated at all. The small outdoor hydro pool was wonderful to use though, with lovely views. Luckily there wasn't anyone else in there, or it would have been rather crowded with another 4 +couples. We finished our spa early, and planned to try it again the next day after breakfast, hoping the saunas would be better and the steams to have more steam. But we're shocked to learn that they wanted an extra £80 to go in there, as can only use the facilities until check out at 11am! (We were not informed of this at all, until check out) Had we have known this, we would have obviously gone in there early morning, rather than wondering around the grounds. We have never experienced this before in other 5* spas, normally usage is until at least 14:00 the next day! When I expressed our disappointment about this, over a lengthy discussion with the manager we were offered a rather offensive "gesture of goodwill" ......10% off !! It really would not have hurt to have allowed the usage of the spa, especially given the previous days experience. Due to the way this was handled, unfortunately we won't be going back, and continue our search for a Luxury, relaxing spa in the North of England !

We’ve been fortunate enough to visit this hotel several times over the years & it’s never disappointed. We find the New Hall rooms to be wonderfully comfortable & of a very high standard & the little touches are always appreciated. We particularly enjoyed the complimentary boxed cocktails which started our evening beautifully. Excited to see the new dining room when the refurbishment is completed - the Orangerie and bar was always a favourite so hoping they will remain - forgot to look at the plans available in the hotel. So pleased this hotel has remained within the Gibson fold for so long & long may it continue as we feel it contributes enormously to delivering high standards of customer service, often lacking from the corporate owned hotels. All the staff care - thank you & of course, we shall return!

Absolutely wonderful service and reception from staff! My son and I were only visiting to collect a voucher from the spa, but then both of us needed feeding! Every member of staff we encountered was really lovely, and went out of their way to ensure both of us felt comfortable and welcomed. One staff member, Diane, made sure he was comfortable in the highchair and chatted with him, which he really enjoyed. It’s so lovely to see others engaging with him and him really being welcomed into a space. Plus, the food was absolutely delicious! I highly recommend the coronation chicken roll! Definitely give this place a visit, even just popping in for a quick refuel. I’d highly recommend. Thank you!

A lovely one-night stay at Rockliffe. Rooms are to a high standard, food quality is superb. The spa is very nice but one downside would be that staff left areas wet, so a few people were slipping. One disappointment is that our evening meal at Terra was not quite what we expected. Service was great, food was excellent (wine a little pricey but to be expected at a five-star really...the sommelier was a bit full on though), but we expected to be in a more formal setting than the same room used for 'Cafe' service during the day. That said, the balcony provides a lovely view. Overall though, looking forward to a return visit.

Beautiful elegant spa hotel. Tried both restaurants and was not disappointed. Room was spacious and well appointed. The view across the golf course was lovely. Spa facilities were excellent.

We stayed here for our wedding anniversary. It was absolute rest and relaxation. The room was spacious and comfortable with a balcony overlooking the golf course. Very comfortable beds. The pillows were a bit soft and unsupportive so that was the only slight issue. Nespresso machine and a selection of teas in the room was a nice touch. The spa was lovely with plenty of loungers, a nice big pool, steam rooms, sauna and lovely warm hydro pool and an outdoor hot tub. On the following morning we booked into the spa garden. This was a treat. Lovely pool overlooking the golf course, a sauna with a view and warm tiled beds to lie on and relax, tea, coffee and water included. In the evening we ate at the clubhouse. It was a nice little walk from the hotel (we were offered a lift by reception). It was quite magical following the lit pathway. There was a nice atmosphere in the clubhouse with a beautiful singer creating a romantic mood. The food was delicious but unfortunately my salmon was really undercooked /raw so I had to return it. I was given a free glass of wine and when the meal came back it was so yummy. I do feel maybe the cost of the meal should’ve been taken off. The staff were amazing though and really looked after us. Even some chocolates with an anniversary message! Breakfast was yummy and fresh. Plenty to choose from. Only thing missing was pancakes which actually appear as a photo on the website when you book bed and breakfast so I think we had them in mind. Everything we had was delicious. What made this place was the staff who were all wonderful. It was so special. We hope to return soon. Only taking one star off because of the raw salmon!

Fantastic Sunday dinner at Rockliffe Hall. Food amazing and the service from Helen, Lewis and the team was exceptional. A lovely environment and restaurant and great value. Would recommended the beef and sticky toffee pudding. Helen especially made us feel so welcome.

We had an amazing stay at Rockcliffe Hall, the service, food, spa and room was impeccable.

Second time we have been here. Booked the winter retreat for my wifes birthday, overall feeling of our stay was one of disappointment Duty Manager intervened following a complaint i made and she was very kind and understanding hence the extra star for this. Unfortunately, we will not be rushing back to stay again.
