Middle Aston House

Beautiful quiet location with nice grounds to walk in including by a lake. Room was clean and fair sized (could walk round the bed!) but stuffy due to limitation on opening french doors. Plenty of easy parking albeit it could be a bit of a trek up to the accommodation blocks with heavy suitcases. Kettle, coffee & cups provided.

The buildings (with rooms) seem to be steel framed in construction which means that sounds reverberate through the structure and the noise of anyone talking in the corridor penetrates every room. I had a balcony but this was rendered unuseable by the ridiculous(!) positioning of the boiler exhaust (and fumes) directly under the open mesh floor of the balcony. More seriously, I could not keep the room french doors open for ventilation in the summer heat because of the exhaust fumes -- there is no other window or other opening. I did not find the 'Exit Sign' light in the room too distracting (...as per other reviews) but there was an irritating continuous cyclic grinding rumbling noise repeated every few seconds which we deduced as due to some sort of water supply pump since it ran in time with fluctuating water flow of any tap (and presumably also triggered by any other tap in the building). All in all there seem to have been many many bad engineering decisions made in the construction of these buildings.

Easy parking, small but very clean and comfortable rooms with quality towels and linen. Beautiful countryside and gardens which we were able to walk around as the weather was very kind with a sunny day to take in the panoramic views of the countryside. Staff were very helpful and friendly and the breakfast was good value with usual beverages, cereals, toast and full English breakfast. It is in a small village and a little way off the main road. But was the perfect location for our needs. It is a functions venue and any unused rooms are available to book for other guests. We stayed at the weekend and even though there was a private party it was very quiet and didn’t disturb us.

Not really dislikes, but the reason it didn’t get full marks, but this didn’t affect us, was there was no restaurant available and the bar is open only when the reception is manned. So the only food was at breakfast. There are pubs in the area but will involve driving.
