Mercure Newport Hotel

Receptionist on check in was great, really efficient and very friendly. Room was nice, clean and comfy bed

Amazing staff, friendly, although please ring them in advance if your cheaking in at very late hours whilst day shift on so reception are aware as it does not say this on the expedia website for it.

Hotel is clean and very comfortable. Views are amazing. Staff made it for me...they were fabulous and hospitable from first to last. (Hotel bar staff made me feel really welcome and safe as a solo woman traveller, thank you, Khalis particularly).

The entry was pretty grotty. Checkin was smooth and staff helpful. Our room was cooking on entry and took time to cool down. It seemed small and plain and well used. Bathroom very good. Bedding was disappointing. A way to thick mattress topper making the bed too soft and some well used pillows that should have been retired long ago. Dinner was nothing special just microwaved curry and a pre made pizza. Breakfast was very good! Overall disappointing for a well regarded brand? YMMV

The bathroom and some furniture was tired but the junior suite had nice window sill to sit on overlooking the river. Nice few soft drinks in the fridge

Nice stay. Only minor problem was waiting some time to get booked in for my room.

Hotel was great. No complaints but the reception had put people in the wrong rooms (we were a biggish party for a funeral) so when I left they told me my room hadn’t been paid for, I kept telling them the name they were saying was not me. I unfortunately was in a hurry to catch my Uber so had to pay. I 100% had paid for my 3 rooms already. Then had to message the other party and get my payment back from them.

Would have easily been a 5 star review but for the service after we left. A lovely wedding reception, 4 rooms booked and lovely drinks. The day was amazing, staff very helpful and made sure everything went smoothly, they honestly couldn’t do enough for us all. Then 2 weeks after the event we get an email from the hotel saying we owe £140. Absolutely no evidence of why we owed any money forthcoming. Tried to say it was for drinks but we paid the tab and when we checked out we even made sure nothing was owing. We were strict in making sure that the tab was in hand. Checked out all fine nothing to pay then suddenly 2 weeks later an email from a manager saying an unpaid bill. Not a single but of proof, they could have just made it up for all we know. But not to spoil a lovely day and overall good experience I decided to pay but told them in no uncertain terms I disputed owing anything. Don’t mind paying if they can provide clear details of what is owing. Sadly a lovely day marred by shocking after service.
