"Noisy room with inadequate security to quieten guests down"

2.0

You pay the best part of $500 for an expensive room in a hotel only to be unable to sleep because selfish parents leave a noisy child (who was too young to be staying in a hotel, clearly) screaming for over an hour in their room next door. Security took an eternity to show up. Next time, should I just say I heard someone say something offensive and then they will show up? Terrible front desk experience, but the restaurant at least was nice and good service.

"Sleep in an architectural landmark"

8.0

This classic building has been nicely restored and repurposed. The interior space is impressive. It’s a place you will enjoy being in. The rooms are clean and simple, with neat views of the structure and the airport. That said, food and drinks are enormously expensive, and it’s a long walk from the lobby and bar area to the rooms.

"Overall a great, fascinating, historic stay!!"

10.0

Actually between 4.5 and 5 stars. A friend and I met up in NY for our birthday weekend. Since we both had early morning flights for our departures, we stayed at the TWA hotel. It was a fantastic experience!! First off, the history of this place is amazing. As soon as you walk in, you see the working old-style flap board displaying "arrivals" and "departures." (Most of the airlines on the board are now defunct.) You walk to the same check in desk that you might have checked in at for your flight in the 1960s. The check in staff were professional and friendly. Since we were staying on my actual birthday, we were given a room upgrade that really pushed our experience to the next level. There is too much for me to describe all of the details and nuances of the retro-futurist decor that pulled us back to the 1960s. We found the TWA uniforms display on the 2nd floor, which was fascinating! I never knew that their uniforms were designed by Oleg Cassini, Valentino, Ralph Lauren and other famous designers. There were a couple of experiences that were less than great. While at the Sunken Lounge, we ordered nachos. They were pretty much stale bulk tortilla chips served with microwaved cheese whiz (or similar). Also, the Connie Lounge was cold (the door was kept open) and quite worn. It is a great concept, but needs to be cleaned up a bit. Lastly, the Airtran terminal was much further than I expected. I think that may be temporary as there is nearby construction. Overall, it was a great stay! I plan on visiting again the next time I pass through JFK.

"Cute stay with some areas for improvement"

8.0

We ended up booking the TWA hotel last minute due to a snowstorm in the area which would have made it difficult to get to the airport for our morning flight. The hotel is adorable with all the cute retro touches. Is it pricey, yes (including food and drinks) but it’s NYC so higher prices are expected. Everyone from the front desk to the servers were super friendly. The place is not shabby or run down as other reviews mentioned. One comment….the food hall is convenient but could use a little decorative life. It’s a little soulless compared to the rest of the building. Also, they really do need to do something about folks sleeping all over the hotel. People are asleep on benches, bar tables, and there were some sketchy folks just kinda walking around. It didn’t feel too safe in common spaces late at night or earlier in the morning. Super convenient to Jet Blue terminal 5!!

"Great place for JFK travelers"

10.0

Another great stay! It’s the old terminal from the 60’s and it’s like going back in time. Little pricy, but worth the convenience if your flying out of JFK. Quick walk to Terminal 5(Jet Blue) or the monorail to get to all other terminals, car rental, long term parking, etc. If you want to go to NYC, you can just hop on the same monorail to connect from Jamaica Queens. Cool bars, restaurants and friendly staff.

"Not as nice as when it first opened"

6.0

This is my third stay at the hotel and sadly, it is looking worn. I stayed here when it first opened in 2019 and the rooms were beautiful with fully stocked bars and nice amenities. This time my room smelled unpleasant, the carpet was worn, there was not even a bottle of water in the room, and the fridge was not only empty but also not cold. I think it wasn't working and also had a broken door. Connie looked dirty and old. The museum is still cool and the architecture is amazing. I noticed a lot of people just sleeping in the public, hidden areas of the hotel by the costume exhibit. I'm glad the Sunken Lounge has been refreshed but the tables were sticky. Breakfast at the Paris Cafe was excellent.

"unhygienic experience"

2.0

unpleasant first time experience..we were allocated a room. looks nice at first but when we flip the sheets, we found used toothpicks and used contact lens. By the looks of it, it seems like the sheets were just tucked to make the bed look like it’s being cleaned. Also, a $100 deposit was taken on the same day we actually booked it but it is now 21 days after our stay and the refund is still pending. The only catch this hotel has is it being inside the airport. Should we have an option at that time, we would have definitely opted for another hotel. It is not worth the money, the experience and the food.

"One night stay"

6.0

The hotel is unique, with very friendly staff, and its location close to the airport is convenient. However, major construction works are currently taking place in the surrounding area, which has negatively impacted the overall experience. The decor inside was nice, as was the room/shower. As this was only a one-night stay, it wasn’t a major issue for us, but it gave a very bad first impression. Considering this is mainly an airport layover hotel, check-in times could be more flexible to better suit guests arriving after long journeys. After 21 hours of travelling, the late check-in was a drawback, although the staff did their best to assist us with an earlier room. The food was quite good but overpriced and not exceptional for the price. After a long trip, we were too tired to look for alternative cafes or restaurants in the area, leaving us with no choice. Overall, while the stay was generally positive, I would consider other options in the future due to the cost, ongoing roadworks, and late check-in policy.

"Location is all it has…"

6.0

Stylish but going to the dogs. Expensive but nothing worth the price apart from location. Long walk with Airtrain, multiple elevators, walkway still under repair since I was last there 3 years ago, streets to cross and poorly sign posted. All in a general state of disrepair. And a drunk passed out in front of the elevator at 1am which is when we finally got there!
