"TWA Hotel Stay"

10.0

You can’t put a price tag on nostalgia, so if you are a history buff I recommend this hotel all heatedly. Arriving at the hotel is an experience that mimics time travel. The JetBlue elevator has two buttons: “1960s TWA Hotel” and “Present Day JetBlue”. Once the doors open, era-appropriate music feels the air and you take the iconic tube hallway (the one that DeCaprio used in Catch Me If You Can) to the main terminal building. Everything about this hotel is impeccable. A lot of thought and attention was put into constructing this hotel. You are completely immersed in the 1960s and the designers went above and beyond to provide guests with the ultimate experience. So yes, I absolutely recommend this hotel despite the expensive price tag. And it is expensive, from the ridiculously high prices at the food Hall to the tax heist at the end. As noted, this hotel was pristine when it opened, but now you can see wear and tear throughout the hotel. My room had a very noticeable smear on the wall. Considering the price tag, such an oversight is unacceptable. The lack of amenities is also an issue. Not having a coffee maker or pool access is one thing, but not having water or moisturizer is another. I must say that the fitness center and lockers, the best that I’ve seen in any hotel, had more amenities than my room. As I noted during my last visit, this hotel has a serious problem with passengers crashing in public areas. You can see them sleeping in the advertised “hidden alcove” throughout the day and at the lobby at night. I wanted to work on my computer in the lobby during the evening but could not find a place to sit because sunken lobby was closed and the other half was occupied by passengers sleeping. Where is the hotel security? Why do paying customers not have access to the lobby? I understand that non-paying customers should have access to the restaurant during the day, but at night the hotel should be reserved for guests only. I offer these points as constructive criticism and I hope that management will work to improve the service.

"Our Stay at the TWA Hotel"

10.0

We highly value your staff-- so very helpful and friendly. We had requested a particular room-we had stayed there when you opened, and the check-in staff made it happen. And that check-in person blocked the same room for our return trip as well. Then, coming back that room was not quite ready when we arrived, so they brought us the key when the room was ready (we were waiting at the circular bar, haha). How extraordinary is that?-such extra service. And the service and food at the Paris café is top notch. We had the same server both nights, and that person was also so helpful, and even asked the cooks for a side dish not exactly on the menu. And the hostess was also friendly and accommodating. All in all, a fantastic experience. We will always sing praises for the hotel, the staff, and the fact that you saved the incredible architecture.

"It was just okay."

4.0

I came here to check out the hotel a few hours before my flight and the hype for a place like this was definitely too much for what it is. It seemed like a cool place to kill some time before check in but upon actually arriving, it took an hour for things to wear off. I walked all around the terminal, saw the “museum exhibits,” and even browsed the store and took photos in their free photobooth. My big draw was having a cocktail on the Connie plane because how cool of an experience is that?! Made a reservation and everything. I get here and there see signs everywhere the cocktail lounge on the plane is closed. I would have arrived later closer to my flight if I knew I didn’t need to be here for that specifically. Quite annoying honestly. I’m writing this from the lobby where I’m just people watching near the Sunken Lounge area, which is fine, but I didn’t really need much time to do this. If you aren’t actively staying at the hotel (not sure if I’d even recommend it with the lack of things to do and the prices for those rooms), I wouldn’t bother.

"TWA GREAT STAY"

10.0

What a beautiful and unique property. A trip back in time to the early 60s. The communal spaces are breathtaking and getting into the Connie parked in back was a great experience. The rooftop bar has a European chalet feel to it and a has a up close view of the runway. Everyone was extremely friendly. Will definitely come back.

"Meh."

6.0

We chose this hotel purely for its convenience to the airport, as we live over 2 hrs. from JFK. The experience and nostalgia of the TWA Hotel were certainly fun, but I’m not sure it justifies the cost. Between the room, food, and parking, we spent almost as much for two days (not even 24 hours in total) here as we did for 5 days in the Caribbean.

"OUTSTANDING EXPERIENCE"

10.0

Although my stay was short I was thrilled at the opportunity to stay at the TWA Hotel. Our family travelled with TWA in the good old days to Europe every year. The hotel concept was brilliant. The experience brought back many great memories. The staff, the rooms, the food was excellent. The lovely museum type exhibits were fantastic. I will be back.

"relieved"

6.0

After reading so many reviews here, I confess I felt relieved by my experience. I wanted a pleasant-enough place to stay near the airport, and the TWA fit the bill. Compared to other airport hotels, it's stylish, and for a single night fine and not depressing, though I think that two nights would have been too long. My dinner at the Paris Cafe, while on the pricey side, was good, and all my interactions with hotel staff were pleasant. I do wish that the bed had been a little more comfortable (mattress a little lumpy?), and the towels might win a prize for being old/stiff/frayed. The room could have been a little quieter (could hear noise from street and hallways). Like others here, I did miss not having a kettle in the room, and a bottle of water / a few more toiletries in the bathroom would have been nice too, given the price point. (A small-ish thing, but I think the hotel's policy of not providing a trash can -- you're supposed to put all your trash/recyclables out on the main table, in full view -- is misguided. I don't think most people want to sleep/eat in the midst of their garbage? The table is the same one you'd use for eating, working. There is a small bin in the bathroom, however.)
