5 minuts walking from Hikone castle!

We loved the traditional structure and clean rooms, as well as the small shops and restaurants on the nearby Hikone Castle Road although many were closed on Tuesday, our arrival day. In the morning I heard the ancient, resonant bell at the castle announcing the 6 AM hour. The feeling was a memory I will always hold dear.

We were VERY disappointed, however in not having the opportunity for a traditional Japanese breakfast. That significantly diminished my estimation of the value. The owner explained that it was not available on our first morning since his wife (?) would be gone and we had to leave too early on the second morning to take advantage of it. It was also a fair distance from the train station, and no taxis were available to take us there.

The atmosphere is traditional and, homely, with a cost free area where you can unwind with other guests and eat..with small lodgings for no hand than a handful of guests. The service was strong by western standards. The owner even drove me to the nearest convenience store when I made dinner enquiries and wanted directions to the nereast convenience store. I was delighted by the washoku breakfast, set me up perfectly for the day.

Only that there were no blinds in my room and some of the light from the nearby temple was visible. Fortunately, I wore a sleeping mask which helped. I can't speak for any other rooms though.

The staff went above & beyond to accommodate me. Can't rate this 180 year old property, that's been preserved & meticulously revamped into a delightful stay. 😀
