It was an amazing glamping experience. The staff is great and very welcoming and service oriented. The location is a blast and they have something going on every other night, including things for kids. Great!

We did our research and knew what to expect when it came to showers, electricity, etc. Staff was excellent - very accommodating. We would stay at Under Canvas again. Only slight negative, we underestimated the number of families with small children.

This was a lovely way to get all ages of family together from toddlers to grandparents in an environment for running and laughing.

Great experience - we stayed one night with 2 kids and a dog. Very nice and helpful staff, great common facilities with a beautiful view and a spacious, clean and quiet tent.

"More camp than glamp, nice digs but come prepared."

8.0

My husband and I were not quite prepared for more of the camping, rather than glamping, experience primarily due to the high cost of these accommodations. It was our first time to visit a UC property so we will know better next time. So, would we visit again? Possibly. It’s a neat experience and we settled in (we stayed four nights) but just know before you go… there are a LOT of families with small children. Fortunately we were in a quiet area that seems to be reserved for couples only but the common areas are packed with kids. We did most of our exploring of Maine off the grounds, so this wasn’t too much of an issue for us except when trying to get coffee in the mornings. I would suggest they separate the hot chocolate from the coffee. The kids were always crowded around and using up the supplies. Also, the staff seemed pretty harried. Maybe because of understaffing issues or just an “unfun” work environment. No one was particularly helpful or friendly except the chef, and he seemed to try and keep things rolling as best he could. But, he also seemed so under staffed and harried, we were surprised he could keep a smile on his face. We only ate breakfasts there and it was decent, not too pricey, but for the overall price per night, a breakfast seems like it would be a great perk for guests. Our tent was great, for a tent. Bed was comfortable and it sure is nice to not have to set up and tear down, have a real toilet, and an almost-real shower! Know too, that this is not a beach. It’s beautiful and walkable when the tide is low, but it is very, very rocky. Take good water/hiking shoes. The area is remote, quiet and lovely but there is easy access to Ellsworth for a great brewery/pizza place (Fogtown Brewing) and to Bar Harbor, etc. (15-45 minute drives.) Like I said, we settled in and ended up having a great time, but if we go again, we’d look for a deal and pack differently.

Beware! You may end with a crying baby in the tent next to you and you will not be reimbursed for your sleepless night and will have to ask repeatedly to get a quiet tent. The food quality is poor (I found a hair in my shrimp tacos!) and overpriced (lobster prices were 50% higher then everywhere else we went). The food also lacked flavor and quality. The General Manager demeanor was stern, cold and inhospitable. She scared my daughter after speaking to her in a harsh tone. Also know that UC charges hidden fees for booking off site adventures with them. In general I found the value proposition not worth it.

"Beware: crying babies, hair in food, inhospitable mgmt"

I was in a tent next to a tent with a crying baby. I had to ask repeatedly to be moved to a quieter tent and was not reimbursed for sleepless nights. The food quality is poor and overpriced. The first night I found a hair in my shrimp tacos. The tacos came with a side of cabbage salad that was simply the same cabbage condiment that was used in the tacos it was completely inedible. The lobster was 50% higher than everywhere else we went to in Maine. The food also lacks flavor. The general manager, Lisa is stern, cold and inhospitable. My daughter was literally scared of her after she spoke to her in an harsh tone. Under Canvas also charges hidden fees for booking off site adventures with them.
