Hotel Sonnhof Rauris

I had the pleasure to stay at Rauris for a week, and thankfully chose Hotel Sonnhof for my staying. The place is beautiful, the service was excellent and the staff was kind and also very helpful at instant if I had something to ask. If you want to go to Rauris, absolutely choose this place!

I spent a week in this hotel with my family (Our children are 2 and 6 years old). The place is very beautiful, the staff is very friendly. There are special places for the children, nearby dinningroom. The food is very good and plenty. But my favourit thing is that the hotel owner is everytime in the hotel and he is very friendly. In each evening he asked us how we are, how can he help us to plan our daily tours based on weather. (We went to Glossglockner, Krimml, Salzburg, Berchtesgaden, etc.) So everything was very beautiful and we are waiting to go back in this hotel/place.

I stayed here with my family for a week and it was an excellent experience for a really good price. The hotel is really close to a lot of attractions and if you would like to go skiing in the winter the slopes are really close. I can say with confidence that this hotel has the best views in the village and it's really breathtaking to be surrounded by the mountains on all sides.

The first Picture shown here is NOT Hotel Sonnhof, but the Mayor´s house. It is a beautiful building, about 200 years old, that everybody coming to Rauris shouls visit. It is to a large extent in original state and houses also the Tourism Office.

When we arrived in the hotel car park the amount of Hungarian registration cars. The owners are Hungarian. I had to tie my shower head with a plastic bag. Spoke to lady in reception on sunday, they tried to fix it on Thursday. The tv was so small and about 50cm left of the bed, on the wall. This was room 14. Breakfast was very poor. I just had toast and jam. They only have a home 4 bread toaster for a big hotel, so you got to wait for a long time. Dinner was the crap food. We ended going to wixen restaurant every night. Breakfast you got to pay 3.30 euros for a latte. Not good views. I guess the locals dont like them because they planted big trees to block the views. Not enough parking. In the restaurant the roof leaks on the dinning table. They still expect customer to sit at this table. My wife broke her hand about 4 weeks before. They dont have any compassion. I tried to cancel my booking but they will not refund my 30 %. I told them i will visit them the same day we left the hospital in zell am zee to show them my wife has broken her arm. but no help. They just want the money. If you like noisy kids running around rooms.

The apartment was nice, cozy, and clean, with a breathtaking view. The staff was more then welcoming, helpful, and nice. The owner is always at the hotel making sure, that you get the best service possible. The food is quite great. The Chef makes sure that your breakfast, and dinner is served in the right way, and tastes good. I strongly suggest this hotel to families with children, because they have a lovely place arranged for kids to play, while you enjoy your drink :) You can basically do everything at the hotel, it has a pool, sauna, squash, a lot of outdoor programs can be arranged, so you will not get bored. The Receptionist is quite nice, she is more then happy and willing to help you in any issues you might have. In one word I would describe my stay here as PERFECT!

We stayed in Hotel Sonnhor for 4 nights- a family with 3 children. We were quite worried about the quality of this hotel as after booking it we read quite a view negative reviews on it. However, it proved a positive disappointment, we found it a pleasant place, clean and had a very relaxing stay there. The hotel is a bit outdated and would benefit from a facelift- so if someone is looking for a stylish boutique hotel, they will be bitterly disappointed (for this price in this area you must be able to compromise). However, the scenery from the restaurant was breathtaking, just stunning and this made it up for the somewhat worn appearance of some details in this hotel. The rooms are spacious (at least the one we stayed in) and well cleaned, the beds weer fairly comfortable. the food mainly accomodates middle-european taste; breakfast is predominantly continental, with a couple of warm options but all of these are rather strange if you come from the UK- no baked beans, no fried tomoatoes and dont remember seeing bacon on the breakfast menu (we quite enjoyed the absence of all the above breakfast items). Dinner also consists of Autro-Hungarian food items, which is quite different from British or Dutch cuisine, less sauces beef or sausages- and as usual in Hungary the vegetables a bit overcooked and maybe abit more salty than we are used to, but otherwise tasty and relatively varied. Dinner consited of one vegetarian and 2 meat or fish options as well as 2 to 3 different sides. All our children, being quite picky when it comes to eating, still managed to find at least one thing each night that they liked. Staff was polite and helpful. We used the pool which was surprisingly deep- 150cm, so smaller children need floats. The temperature of the water was a comfortable 29C (I asked before I got in as I hate cold swimming pools) and the children really enjoyed having a slash after a day of skying. We were generally pleased with our stay- definitely good value for money.

Stayed at the Sonnhof with my son for a weeks skiing trip. Our room was basic and with a tiny bathroom, however everything was very clean. The beds were comfy, extra pillows were provided on request, and the room was warm, with a balcony providing a fantastic view over the town and mountains. The location of the hotel is good. A little bit behind the church in the centre of town, and only a few minutes walk to the gondola. I believe that there are ski equipment storage facilities in the hotel, however we hired a locker in the gondola station to avoid having to carry equipment to and from the hotel, and this is definitely worthwhile. Free internet access is available in the restaurant area, although it could be quite slow and patchy, particularly in the evenings when a lot of people are using it. The only negative points I can make are about the food - it is 'OK' rather than great. At breakfast the 'cold' milk for cereal was lukewarm every day, the coffee didn't taste of anything, and one morning they had run out of both cornflakes and white bread. Evening meals were generally a choice of two main dishes, with potatoes of some sort and either rice or pasta. Very limited vegetables and no gravy or sauce so could be quite dry meals. Dessert was always a cube of some sort of cake. We decided to eat out a few evenings for a bit of choice and variety. There are plenty of nice restaurants in town. So, whilst not 'perfect' this really was excellent value for the price which we paid, and I would be more than happy to stay there again.

I trawelled with my wife 30.04.2014.-04.05.2014 to thd Hotel. The Hotel and the environment were beautiful. We felt our very good, the staffs of the hotel were very nice, and the meals were delicious and varied. We would like to go back to the a Hotel in the future. We were very satisfied.
