St James Hotel Selma Tapestry Collection by Hilton

It was in an excellent location for what we wanted, the Pettus bridge. We are doing the Civil Rights Trail. It was clean and a little old fashioned, historic, which we liked. It is a beautiful old building. The staff was lovely and accommodating.

That there was only one chair, which made it uncomfortable to do anything but be in bed.

There was a cockroach in the toilet (still alive, but it had been there a while) to greet us, no light bulb in one of our two lamps, and no conditioner in the bottle when I went to take a shower. The nice woman who checked us in gave us the wrong room number also. There was someone in the room, so we had to go back downstairs to figure that out. Otherwise, the hotel is absolutely beautiful! It was hard to see at night though-more outdoor lighting on the hotel NAME should be prioritized.

The St. James Hotel is a beautiful historic building. The options in the area were limited, and the service was slow, probably because we are in the south. I would have liked to have foldable luggage racks, and the drainage of the sink was slow. But I would not want those commas to detract from a beautiful historic building. The room was large and clean.

This is a lovely boutique hotel with a lot of potential! Overlooking the river, with attentive staff, we enjoyed our stay. However, some things were not up to Hilton standards. Broken bathroom fixtures and dead plant debris detracted from the ambiance. The restaurant needs some help as they only served bar food. And the bartender did not set up the bar but attempted to serve drinks from a cart. She didn’t know her wine or liquor. The hotel is in need or some upkeep, the the staff needs some training. And Hilton needs some oversight. Be aware, there is nothing to do nearby. The town looks like a war zone.

Our stay was marred due to the fact that we had to wait over 30 minutes to check-out as there were no staff at the registration desk.

Smell in the room, lighting was trouble, cleaning was not up to par

The location is right in downtown Selma, and a block from the Pettus Bridge. The staff was delightful. The rooms are pretty, and the upgrade to a river view room was well worth it as it also gave us balcony access.

The rooms do not have microwaves and we don’t get to use our property credit because the cook didn’t show up for work for breakfast.
