"Hotel good, hotel next door noisy"

6.0

A very nice hotel, we had the top floor room with a lovely balcony with beautiful sea view. The staff cannot do enough for you, the breakfast was fine. The problem was the hotel next door. Some evenings there was extremely loud music playing, one night it went on until 4.am. We had to check out the next morning as we could not get any sleep. It was not our hotels fault but you should be aware of this problem when booking.

"Bad Lunch"

2.0

Had the SL curry for lunch. Pretty tasteless; no accompaniments only the curry and one dollop of sweet chutney. Had been for lunch next door; great food there but sadly not here. Guess they all can’t be good.

"Average "

6.0

Lucky Tuna sits next door to our hotel and we decided to give it a try since it seemed quite popular compared to the other restaurants around it. I ordered the grilled Barracuda which was pretty average, very chewie which looks like it wasn't fresh. My partner ordered the pasta and her comment about it was: "nothing special. Meh".

"A bad neighbor on Unawatuna Beach"

2.0

Had dinner there with my kids and it was not good. Curry was good - hard to screw this up in Sri Lanka - but fish that is supposed to be fresh was overcooked, and "pasta carbonara" (for kids) was not edible. It's not often that nobody at our table will eat a meal! But it was loaded with sloppy cream and filled with overcooked vegetables (and no salted pork/bacon/whatever). Just bad. I was willing to give them a pass, but then later in the evening their band ('70s & '80s classic rock) started playing and it was SO LOUD. What makes Unawatuna Beach wonderful is that it is fun, but relatively peaceful and quiet. There seems to be a respect along the entire beach for preserving this atmosphere. That is, except at Lucky Tuna. The band played well past midnight, followed by loud music later into the morning. It could be heard up and down the beach. This appears to be the one hotel on the beach that does not make an honest effort at delivering a quality experience. Instead, the owners/managers seem to want to set the lowest bar on the beach, delivering poor service and poor food to unconcerned customers looking to drink cheap beer into the night. Sadly this comes at the expense of every nearby hotel and restaurant operator and their guests.

"Not for families, or anyone who wants peace and quiet"

2.0

If you stay at the Lucky Tuna Hotel, you will be kept awake by an extremely LOUD live band that plays past midnight. When I tried to talk to the owner to explain that our children could not sleep, he would not speak with me and instead sent his staff to yell at me to go away. His staff was extremely rude and dismissive, counting their money while yelling at me. I was told that the police will not intervene because they have permission to play until the early hours of the morning. It was so bad that people were looking up other hotels to move to in the middle of the night. I would NOT recommend this hotel to anyone, unless listening to a mediocre cover band with excessive bass and drunk people is what you’re looking for in a vacation. I suspect you can hear them anywhere on Unawatuna Beach, so frankly, I would recommend that you stay away from the entire beach. What a shame that one thoughtless business owner is ruining everyone’s holiday.

"Food was good but the service was not"

6.0

The food was good and priced well but they got our drink order wrong and there was one old man serving about 11 tables solo, while it seemed the rest of the staff just hung around doing nothing just smoking. If you go there clear your afternoon schedule because it might take awhile to get your food.

"Must have had a bad night"

6.0

Unfortunately for us we visited in low season. We had an amaIng feed th night before at black and white Bethenny tonight came to lucky tuna and selected our food— not fresh! Didn’t enjoy it and was happy to leave. While we were offered more fish to compensate for the lack of freshness—we had had enough of the dinner, sadly disappointed

"Amazing Beach Front Views"

8.0

We stayed there last week in June, rented all 4 rooms (they have total 4), the property probably has one of the best views in Unwatuna. Its essentially a beach shack with 4 rooms on top - very charming. Good food - complimentary breakfast was eggs a few different ways. We had dinner there all 3 nights - the prawn curry & fish curry are good. Good music - on of the place which is normally always full even latish at night. They gave us good service. Overall Great place. Rooms are air-conditioned. Get your own towels and toiletries though.
