"Great atmosphere and Great service"

10.0

We stumbled upon this location through VRBO, and due to its reviews, pictures, size of cabins to fit a family of 5 comfortably, and affordably, we thought we would give it a shot. We are glad that we did... We went down to this area for a family ski trip to Snowshoe (About 40 minutes away) and got so much more. This resort has an amazing fly shop, Elk River running through the property for fly fishing, a fish hatchery, and a trout pay stream where you can work on your craft or are almost guaranteed to catch dinner, all on site. In addition, they have Ellie Mays cafe on site, and the food and service in this little space were amazing. The whole family wanted to eat every meal here. Everyone there (Cafe, Fly Shop, and staff working front desk for check in and gift shop) were all amazing. My youngest son, made fast friends with the fly shop guides and now is hooked on fly fishing. The cabin was very nice. It was clean, comfortable and well-furnished. Needless to say we will definitely be back for more visits and not just for skiing. The only complaint (Not really a complaint for my family) is that it is in the middle of nowhere. We loved it but just for transparency. (Get your groceries and supplies on way in for long stays)

The only two downsides were a lack of WiFi and cell service (only available in the main house) and no GPS. They do send you very detailed directions, but if you are wholly unfamiliar with the area, it can be a little unsettling to be on winding roads outside of civilization with no cell service. I admittedly panicked (we drove for 12 straight hours overnight), and our friend was on the verge of declaring us missing because he couldn't get in touch with us. Obviously, we were totally fine and laughed about it later. The resort itself was beautiful, quiet, and the staff were very friendly. The cabins were cozy and warm, as we were there in February/March when it was cold, and the exterior bath house was also very warm. It was clean and there was plenty of hot water. I highly recommend if you're looking to escape into nature.

Beautiful place, cozy cabins, really enjoyed our trip. Maybe some new mattresses, it was a little uncomfortable. Ate at restaurant, supposed to be St. Patrick's Day party. Staff was completely overwhelmed. Well over an hour to get wings and a pizza. Garlic parm wings were really good! Pizza just ok. Party was not happening, so some customers who appeared to be regulars got karaoke started. Overall, we had a great time! Definitely interested in coming back forva friends trip. Probably will skip the restaurant though.
