Sheraton Belitung Resort

The food was exquisite, full of flavor and beautifully presented. The service was impeccable — attentive, professional, and genuinely kind. A special mention to Nurul, our waiter, who made us feel truly at home with his warmth and care. His attention really made the experience even more memorable. Highly recommended, and we would definitely come back.

Lovely beachfront location which was very special. Friendly staff who tried hard to provide a good service. Our children also enjoyed the french toast at breakfast. It was a very relaxing location - clean, and very, very, very quiet (almost a little TOO quiet in some ways).

Whilst quiet, and relaxing, the hotel had a very strange vibe - in that it seemed almost as though it was unfinished or part-closed. For example, the pool bar was closed and there were no staff around the pool area most of the time. Another example was that even though various pizzas were on the food menu, they didn't turn the pizza oven on until later which meant they couldn't be ordered for lunch - despite being on the lunch menu. Also, the facilities didn't quite match a 5 star resort -for example there were no toilets/changing near the pool which meant you had to go through the restaurant to use the toilets - not ideal if you'd just got out of the pool being wet.

We had visited Bali and Lombok last year and wanted to give Belitung a go. Belitung is much less developed and so we selected a brand name for our first few nights, despite the fact that we often prefer smaller boutique hotels. Despite the big brand name this hotel has a very homely, friendly feel. From check in, we immediately felt relaxed. The hotel was very tranquil, and as we were at the end of the high season, occupancy was low. The staff were so energetic and really wanted to provide a high level of service. They really made the whole experience very memorable, especially in the restaurant and reception. We had a lagoon view suite, which was very well appointed. There were a few points of note, such as the menu being a bit limited (which is important as the location does not really allow you to eat elsewhere) and wine list very basic. However, the seafood nights were excellent and the food generally was very tasty. The pool area was very good and the large pool allowed for "real" swimming. The beach was beautiful and the sea warm and clear but do be aware of jelly fish and even the occasional sea snake!! There is a company on the beach that arrange excursions and water sports and they are also very good. The island hopping tour is a must, and I would recommend the afternoon, as the sunsets can be stunning. The visit to the island with the caves was amazing and we got some great photos. We also got caught on an island in huge downpour which actually added to the experience! Overall, I would fully recommend this hotel, and the staff with take excellent care of you. I would also recommend the beach excursion team. The owner taught the two of us to paddle board, and, if you are lucky, he may show you some of his beach art work (which is a great momento, if he has any for sale). You should remember that international guests are less common here and while the staff only ever want to do their best, they perhaps have less experience than some in other more international resorts and so please be kind!
