"An old gift to the modern man"

10.0

So, Anchuca is a Choctaw word for “Happy Home”, and if there was a Choctaw word for “Happy Discovery”, I would use it! We stopped in Vicksburg in between Texas and South Carolina - an amazingly historic town, and stumbled upon the Anchuca Mansion for dinner. Wow! What an elegant, classic Southern beauty! This place was built in 1830, and is a step back in time when comfort and guest happiness was essential. You walk in to a restored, cool area with brick floors in the Garden Room. Incredible rolls were served first (a life -saver!) with one of the best Manhattan’s I’ve ever tasted, and a wonderful wine list. We had a filet so tender no steak knife was needed, with mashed potatoes and creamed spinach, and the lamb chops. I am STILL dreaming about them! (Oh, and the white chocolate bread pudding!) My only sadness is that I did not find this place under a local hotel google search, or I certainly would have stayed here. A quick look around the grounds, and I knew this was a timeless place I want to return to - oohhh, perhaps in December to see the town in its Christmas best??? This hotel and restaurant gives you the elegant feel of all things Southern - from the charm of decor to the incredible food and service! A true tribute to its heritage - I will forever search for the perfect Choctaw word to say, “love of place”. It was a true treasure to find this place, and rest assured, I will forever make Vicksburg a destination - just to stay and eat at the Anchuca Mansion and Inn!

"The Perfect Place To Stay While Enjoying Historic Vicksburg"

10.0

We stayed two nights in the Carriage House just outside of the Mansion. Our bed was very comfortable, the AC was cold, and the water got hot. I really can't find anything to complain about. Plus .... the staff at the front desk and in the restaurant were excellent. They made walked us to our room and made sure that everything was in order (it was!). Breakfast was served in the study and dining room of the mansion the first morning and in the restaurant dining area the second morning. In both cases, the food and the service was quite good. Definitely an excellent way to start the day.

"We rested well in historic grandeur!!!"

10.0

Erica & Madison were just perfectly delightful and professional! The check-in process was simple. Erica even helped us with our luggage. We met the owners too and they could not have been more pleasant! We sat for hours by the fountain and talked. Breakfast was very balanced. We had eggs, bacon, cheese grits, mixed fruit & homemade gingerbread served with juice coffee & water. We stayed in the Wilson room #10, the master suite and it was AMAZING! It had antique furniture, the bed had a beautiful canopy! The curtains were of a period pattern & fabric. There was space with sitting room furniture, a Roku tv, a mini fridge & Keurig stocked with an assortment of complimentary coffee & bottled water. There was also a bottle of wine & some snacks as well with prices listed if you were feeling peckish. They offer a video tour of the house during breakfast and let guests roam around the house and explore. The dinner was more expensive than I expected but every bite I ate was of impeccable quality. My compliments to the breakfast and the dinner chefs and their brigade! It was my husband Chris’ birthday, his brother’s birthday and my birthday so they celebrated our birthdays with a scoop of vanilla bean icecream with a sparkler type firework for each of us! All of my husband’s brother’s , there wives and his only sister and her husband all stayed inside the house(each in beautifully appointed rooms)! We thoroughly enjoyed our stay!!! We all highly recommend Anchuca and will have happy memories of the “Happy Home” for the rest of our lives!!!

This does not reflect badly on the property or the owners but something that just is what it is. The outdoor brick steps and the brick patio are uneven and if you are not paying attention you could really have a badly turned ankle or a fall, so be very careful!

"Expensive and far, far less than we had hoped for"

Sadly, Anchuca Historic Mansion and Inn does not live up to the hyperbolic descriptions on its website. We arrived on April 3, 2025 for a two-night stay. Here is what we experienced: > employees at the reservation desk arguing in front of guests; > no help to carry luggage a significant distance and up two staircases to our second floor room; > a hole the size of a basketball in a wall in our room, covered by a ridiculous sign thanking us for our understanding; > loud noise from the restaurant below our room that lasted until after 10pm, long after closing; > unappetizing breakfasts of cold grits, cold scrambled eggs and cold bacon; > outdoor grounds lacking a spring clean-up, with leaves, twigs and branches everywhere, and only a few tables and chairs for guests; > pool unavailable despite temperatures near 80 degrees; > a bee colony on the grounds that drove us back to our room For two nights in a room with a king-size bed, we paid a total of $526.50. Included in that total were processing and facility fees of $31.00 (7 percent of the total room charge). We wish to note that Anchuca's 7 percent in additional fees was far higher than the processing fees of four other hotels we stayed in during our vacation, including the Hotel Monteleone in New Orleans and the Peabody in Memphis. Think our experience was just a one-time aberration? Read the Trip Advisor review from Peter_01039 from November 2016. It's clear that Anchuca has issues that carry over from year to year, and owner to owner.
