A peaceful quiet traditional Japanese home, you really feel like you’re stepping back in time. The host is great and speaks good English. He helped book a local restaurant called Chicka which was delicious. Great stop over spot.

De omschrijving klopt gewoonweg niet. Er staat dat je een vakantiehuis met 1 slaapkamer huurt, maar wat je in werkelijkheid krijgt is een kamer in een huis dat je deelt met anderen. Je moet de enige badkamer en toilet dus delen met wildvreemden die in de kamer naast je zitten. De kamers kunnen niet op slot, en de eigenaar vertrekt na incheck naar zijn eigen huis, 20 km verderop. Privacy is er niet want de wanden zijn papieren kamerschermen. Er is een keuken, maar je mag er niet koken of wokken, alleen de magnetron gebruiken. Op de foto's lijkt het allemaal woonruimte maar ook dat klopt niet: zo is er een foto van iemand die in een grote ruimte bij het raam zit, maar die zit in realiteit in een smalle gang als de kamerschermen dicht zijn, en dat moet dus want die vormen je enige afscheiding van de andere gasten. We hebben geklaagd bij Booking.com. Die hebben aan de eigenaar om een reactie gevraagd, maar die heeft blijkbaar alleen gezegd dat privacy in een Japans huis nou eenmaal beperkt is, maar daar gaat het niet om. Waar het om gaat is dat je wordt voorgeschoteld dat je een huis voor jezelf hebt, terwijl je dus een kamer zonder privacy hebt. In feite een hostel voor de prijs van een tophotel. In 3 weken Japan heb ik al onze hotels een 9 of een 10 gegeven, dus ik ben niet negatief ingesteld. Maar je moet kunnen vertouwen op de omschrijving en dat klopt hier dus echt niet.

The house is amazing! If you want to experience staying in an authentic traditional Japanese home (a very ornately decorated one), I highly recommend this place! The host was very friendly and spoke English, and helped us with some dinner reservations too. It's peaceful and nearby the Shimanto River.

The house was absolutely gorgeous. Such a charming place! The host (Kenji) was very friendly and patient. He explained things so calmly. We went for dinner at a restaurant he recommended and we had such a great experience! Crossing the bridge to reach the little collage was also fun. It was all perfect!

A beautiful, peaceful hideaway, as the name suggests.

This is indeed a wonderful hideaway in beautiful nature. We were lucky to be the only guests, having the house to ourselves. It is fully in the traditional Japanese style, which will transport you to a different time and place. And yet, it is perfectly equipped including a wide range of coffee making equipment as well as beans. The owner goes out of his way to make guests at home from the first moment, but without being the least bit obtrusive or chatty. In all aspects a perfect place to enjoy this beautiful part of Japan and go back to a pre-modern era we now sometimes long for.

This is not a minus, but the house is away from the town and driving back in the dark over the narrow (monumental) bridge is not something you do after a party. The owner has several great suggestions on how to ensure you can enjoy the region"s food and the quiet of your new home in equal measure!
