Shimanto Riverside Hideaway

The riverside hideaway is exactly what I wanted and the place I was most looking forward to staying and it didn't disappoint. Beautifully renovated old Japanese house in the middle of nowhere by the river with spectacular night sky. The facilities were very clean and the beds were very comfortable. I loved the well kept garden. It is a wonderful place if you want to experience the inaka and Kenji is a great host.

I had to keep coming to my wife's aid to eject large spiders from the house. Maybe investing in some kind of spider catcher would be a good idea? Beware the bridge getting there is quite hair raisingly narrow if you're driving. It is literally in the middle of nowhere with no near vending machines and a fair drive to the town (which also has little convenience stores at night)

The room was absolutely stunning, with every detail thoughtfully designed for comfort and style. The location itself was gorgeous, surrounded by natural beauty and offering the prettiest night sky I’ve ever seen. Our host, Kenji, was incredibly helpful and kind, he not only shared great suggestions for local restaurants but even offered to call ahead and make a reservation for us. The entire stay was peaceful and relaxing, and if it had been possible, I would have gladly booked a few more nights just to enjoy the stunning views and quiet atmosphere.

お宿のご主人さんがとても親切な方でした！ お勧めのご飯屋さんを教えて頂き、行ってみたら県外のお客様向けのコースがあり大満足でした！ また、沈下橋が徒歩5分の所にあり今回の旅行の目的を沈下橋を見る事！にしていて私達にとっては大満足のお宿でした。マウンテンバイクも借りられるので自然を満喫出来ます！（有料）！ お宿を出てから小豆島に行くことをお話ししたら観光本を貸してくれ、付箋で目印が付いていた事も気遣いを感じました（ ; ; ）ありがとうございました！

四万十川で泳ぎたい！が第一希望でした。歩いて5分、車で1分。瀬になっていて安全なポイントを紹介していただき、念願叶って四万十川で泳ぐことができました。沈下橋も初めてで、驚きと感動満載でした。 建物もオーナーのこだわりでしょうか、和のものがセンスよく飾られたり置かれたりしており、どこを見ても素敵でした。土間のキッチンが気持ちよかったです。食器もグラスも茶器もポットも、一つ一つ素敵なものが揃えられており、お茶もコーヒーも紅茶も美味しいものが準備されていました。個人的に私の理想のお家スタイルがこちらの宿だったのかもしれません。本当に素敵な宿でした。2泊くらいでまた行けたらいいなと、名残惜しい宿でした。

Great authentic feel in a peaceful location.

Slightly bigger bathroom (toilet room) and more than 1 between all guests would be ideal.

古い日本家屋の為独特のカビ臭さがある。お風呂にお湯を張ると濁っており、流石に入ることを止めた。ホストの方はとても人当たりが良く素晴らしい。夜は居間に巨大なムカデが登場し驚いた。

Location was beautiful and the house was gorgeous.

Nothing really…there was another group staying at the same time and I was a bit worried about timings for bathroom and noise, but neither was a problem
