The Colonial Inn, an Ascend Collection Hotel

This property is a must to add to your list of stays. Outstanding Inn and local shops and and restaurants. Excellent all around. Staff were all extremely friendly. Make sure you visit the restaurant and bar located inside. The bartender Oz is super cool!!!

If you’re thinking of spending some time in Hillsborough, NC, don’t pass up the chance to stay here. This is a fully renovated property with a beautifully designed annex that compliments this historic inn. The rooms are immaculate with daily cleaning service. The property is in a beautiful part of town, so if you don’t want to eat at the Inn you’re a short walk to some awesome dining. I especially like the fact that we were within easy striking distance from Durham and Raleigh. What struck me most is the attention given to general hospitality. Everyone was genuinely warm and welcoming, going out of their way, from bringing a delicious biscuit to go with our coffee (they have tables in the lobby where you can eat) , to spending lots of time with a difficult web company that we booked through. — Many thanks to Elise for her help. I would be remiss if I didn’t mention some of the other staff. Thank you to Rutland(co-owner with Elise), Abby, Nancy, and the rest of the folks who were attentive, professional and just really enjoyable to chat with. We have friends who moved to the area, so this will be our go to place. Don’t miss this gem!!!!

Positives: clean and well located Negatives: Non-existent soundproofing (I now know much more about the people in the adjacent room and the room above me than I really wanted to.) Inconsistent housekeeping service. One day the room was fully cleaned, the next day the bed was not even made. I don't mean linens changed. I mean they didn't even pull the covers up and put the pillows back in place. Inconsistent front desk attitude, one person pleasant, another borderline rude Maintenance person who entered my room to check the thermostat reeked of smoke. The entire property was supposedly non-smoking. The room lacked a coffee maker. Only way to get coffee was to get dressed, go outside, then re,-enter their lobby. Instead the room had some device that looked like a small electric mop that I can only guess was a shoe duster. This particular room was so tiny. It had no desk or even any writing surface. I can't speak to the other rooms.

Good size rooms, very comfortable beds. cosy feeling. nice bar an restaurant. very clean hotel. Historic area safe and quiet to go walking and exploring.

A small work desk in the room would be helpful, also coffee or tea making facilities in the room as it is not available in the morning from reception before 7am. I stayed several nights and jet lag had me up at 4 or 5 a, bought my own kettle and coffee from Walmart

Indowntown Hillsborough this hotel is a perfect stay.

We enjoyed the small garden area to walk around.

Beautiful room- quaint town, I mistakenly thought it was a bed and breakfast- there is no breakfast
