The Ram Inn

Characterful 15th.century country inn with plenty of parking. Staff all friendly & helpful - one carried a bag upstairs. Spacious room with warm, comfy beds & adequate radiator. Decent shower with large cubicle. Busy, atmospheric bar/restaurant although lighting rather dim. Good locally-brewed ales & tasty food. Plentiful breakfast with plenty of options. Sound of mice scurrying about above the ceiling - a novelty!

Booked twin room but it was made up as double. Megan at reception spotted this & reconfigured it but we had to hang about while that was done. Room described as Deluxe but no carpets or curtains. Radiator didn't come on until we asked & towel rail in bathroom never worked. Coffee-making machine in room but no instructions on how to use it. Had to ask for tea bags. Food a bit pricy for size of portions.

Very pleasant room. Excellent bed and quality bedding - always makes a difference. We didn't eat there as we arrived late , but we had a drink and it is a truly lovely atmospheric old English inn. The breakfast in the morning was absolutely top class. I had scrambled egges on toast and there was practically too much, and my husband who is vegan enjoyed a cooked breakfast too. The coffee was so good I had to go back on the way home again (through Newhaven) to find out about their coffee and the machine they use! It was very well placed for coming off the Newhaven ferry late ( about 10.30pm - not sure if you could arrive after hours) and there is a huge car park ( rather dark!) I would definitely stay there again.

Nothing . A bit hard to find in the dark and the rain, but you just keep driving into Firle. Turn left into the car park as soon as you see the Ram's Inn sign.

Staff are so good

Our double room was tiny no wardrobe chest of drawers absolutely nowhere to put any clothes and barely enough room to manoeuvre around the bed.

Alas, breakfast wasn’t available until 9.00am and I had to leave before then. The room, clean (save for the soap dispenser over the basin), was rather small and would have been better suited with a single bed that would have allowed a chair.
