Newbridge on Usk

Customer service was excellent. Food was fabulous. Quality of everything within rooms was great but there were basic issues overlooked. The tea tray on arrival was in wardrobe and when taken out for use there was no surface to place it on near a socket. Therefore kettle was placed on bedside cabinet which was very inconvenient. There was a light switch on one side of bed that didn’t work and, if on that side of bed guest had to get out to switch of central light. ( bedside light wasn’t plugged in as it was needed for kettle and phone charging). There was significant noise from people moving around upstairs and at 6.45 am loud gushing of water in corner of room presumably from room upstairs. Breakfast service and quality was great but the lovely member of staff was covering breakfast service and reception leading to a short delay in checkout. Overall my perception of this venue, whilst good value for money, is style over substance and needs to get the basics right.

This was our second time and was a real treat.The staff were brilliant Marius and Molly made us really welcome and our mini bungalows were well kitted out . The evening meal was delicious and location ideal for a short quiet brea we explored the area by having a day trip to Chepstow and a nice swim and sauna at the Celtic Manor Will return again in the future

I am writing this review as I wrote a private review that was sent to the Newbridge on usk and I received no reply. I booked this evening away for my husbands birthday Firstly we arrive at the hotel and were greeted nicely and were seated for the Sunday lunch that was booked for 1 o’clock. It was very cold and through our lunch it felt like we were in a canteen with staff constantly in and out of a swing kitchen door and running up and down a spiral stair case with plates of food and drinks. It definitely didn’t feel like we were in a AA rosette restaurant. Our table was definitely in the wrong place. Our starters were very nice but my main Beef sirloin was very fatty and I couldn’t eat it. So I ate my vegetables. The member of staff asked did I wanted another one but it was too late then my husband had finished his food. Nobody came to ask if we would like another drink after the first one we had to try and get the staff’s attention. We then had dessert that was lovely. We then went to the lounge hoping it was warmer. It wasn’t as the staff were going through a fire door and leaving it open so I got up to close it. The lounge needed a bit of love as sitting on the windowsill was a large glass dusty vase and a vase with very tired plastic daffodils. Very sad for a 4 star hotel. The leather seats had seen better days. Felt like we were in a waiting room not a hotel lounge. There was entertainment there from 1 o’clock until 3.30 pm that was excellent. Our bill for Sunday lunch came up £160 and the manager said he had taking off my starter because of my main meal. A bit bizarre as my starter was lovely. Off to our room which was very cosy and tastefully decorated. We went up to the main resort in the evening as the Newbridge on usk only served Sunday lunch all day until 8 in the evening. I did ask if there was anything else we could eat but there wasn’t and no room service. our evening was lovely. Had a few drinks in the cocktail bar then ate in the grill restaurant nice food lovely staff and transport was provided with the shuttle service. We went back to mulberry bar had a few more drinks and watched the great entertainment into 11.30. We left then and asked concierge to order a taxi. It came in 20 mins but cost £26 as there is no transport back to the Newbridge on usk. Our breakfast in the morning was only continental as only one member of staff there. She was lovely and very helpful. We wouldn’t stay there again but would stay in main resort.

Room very dark and dismal, also no prior heating, consequently we were extremely cold until radiators started to work and sadly no heating in restaurant, which meant we had to eat with our jackets on. We expected a similar standard to the Sorting Room in Cardiff for food but it was well below par. The bonus was the staff were 100% Not one to revisit.

Very comfortable bed, hearing birdsong outside, friendly and accommodating staff.

Very attentive staff, one was abit pushy for a tip... at the prices I felt we was already paying a premium. Food was nice , drink was expensive Was woke early by plumbing from the downstairs bathroom. The bed mattress was a bit tired on the one side , and I did feel like I was rolling off the edge through the night .

Setting wss good , breakfast was good

Decor missed the mark Only a small window to the sode of the door , so very dark room and therefore no ventilation. Bedding was not great , the pillows were too small for the pulliw cases, the material was foldes over by a third over. Pillows were very thin. Towels were white but very thin and hard ?

Lovely relaxed Dinner Bed and Breakfast. The room Dashing Dace was gorgeous, very comfortable bed. Beautiful deep and fast filling bath. Dyson fan and hairdryer. Only bonus would have been if there was a window which we could have left open safely and a view, but we could walk for that. The food we had in the evening was amazing, and the continental breakfast delicious. Definitely recommend.
