Newbridge on Usk

We were very impressed with the quality of the service provided by the staff who took great care and attention to all the guests ,taking an interest in their activities during their stay. The buffet breakfast was exceptional as were those overseeing the various requirements and queries whilst simultaneously serving hot drinks.

There is nothing to dislike.

Staff pleasant and friendly. The hotel itself is lovely and in a beautiful location. There is a seating are outside overlooking the river which is lovely. However, the accommodation block is adjacent to the hotel and the rooms are very dark with no window or a very small window. Fortunately we had brought our own deckchairs to sit outside. The room was rustic but tastefully decorated. The bathroom would be difficult to negotiate for an older person or anyone with mobility issues as it was a pedestal bath, high off the ground with nothing to hold onto and a fairly complex shower contraption above! The shower curtain extended all around the bath! Breakfast was continental with little choice and food left unrefrigerated for the duration of breakfast( 3 hrs). Evening dinner had limited choice and the same soup of the day both days!! We were able to use the facilities at Celtic Manor resort for swimming and spa. The Jacuzzi was out of action.

A hidden gem in South Wales in a very rural spot with a very nice restaurant and accommodation.

Nice country pub in a great location next to the river

I booked one night for two with two breakfasts. It was only after I booked with no cancellation that I was told the breakfast was continental and not Welsh.

Called for a late (2.30) lunch on Thursday. Friendly welcome and quickly shown to our table. The menu offered was for the lunch specials (2 courses £24, 3 courses £30). Our main course was loin of pork which was fantastic, although we noted the accompanying vegetables were not as shown on the menu. For dessert we ordered one item from the daily menu and one a la carte. All the food was excellent, but we were amazed to be charged full a la carte prices despite ordering from the specials menu. Final bill 0f £111 (exc service) seems a little over the top bearing in mind the advertised prices. I was so astonished at the bill I negligently didn't query it - may omission, but this leaves a sour taste.

Beautifully appointed room, luxurious products with Italian coffee maker & Dyson hair drier, walking stick & umbrella- thoughtful touches to cater to guests needs - we loved it

Nothing - and for me that's exceptional

Large comfortable bed. Great decor. Beer garden by river superb. Excellent Continental breakfast with fresh brewed coffee
