The Auction House

The hotel has interesting decor and we liked the thick stone walls. The staff were great. We chose this venue for the location which was excellent. There was a kettle and hairdryer in the room, which was very clean. We had access to an iron upstairs and a back door for out-of-hours return.

The room was very compact - it had clearly been a larger room once and divided in half. There was nowhere to put bags except the floor, and there were no hooks on the walls so we ended up hanging clothes over the mirror (which meant we couldn't use the mirror). The bathroom door blocked access to the mirror over the sink. Shower fittings came off when we tried to shower and it was unusable - we were given the key to another room for showering (the same fitting came off in the second room too, but that one was usable at least). I'd called ahead to request vegan breakfasts but on arrival the vegan option was 'whatever is not meat on the menu' so it was more defined by the absence of items than actual vegan options. If I stayed there again (wouldn't rule it out as it's a nice place) I would prefer that breakfast was not included in the room price so we could eat elsewhere. However the quality of the food was good.

Staff were brilliant. Huge asset Location was very central in Morpeth.

Bedroom and bathroom felt quite cramped. Breakfast was limited too.

Very noisy as it’s right on the road which isn’t their fault but could be helped with secondary glazing.

The breakfast served by a very pleasant girl was very good.

No one there in the booking in time specified and had to let ourselves into an empty hotel via a fire escape. But didn't know our room. After several attempts ringing the phone numbers in my email someone answered saying they would be there in 10 minutes. Not good enough it was 4.30pm by now. She gave us a code to access room 6, a small poky room with a high slit window for which we had paid £114. Lucky we were only there for 1 night. In the morning I noticed a fire door on our floor propped open with a wedge, photo supplied. The only other guest who we saw had access problems too. We should have received a breakfast form by email, neither of us had. So this could be a good boutique hotel, but the owner needs to get his act together and get staff working properly. I know this is not a one off experience as several other people have said the same things in reviews. I should have read them!

Nothing at all

having to wait for 1 hour in the carpark as the door was locked and wasn't sent details of the room. called out of hours with no response and after 2 hours calling girl answered, said she was at her parents, apologized that the email hadn't been sent. then gave me the room code. next morning asked at breakfast if i had ordered my breakfast, had to explain that nothing was provided. when having breakfast another couple came down with nearly exactly the same experience. i would not go back

Hotel is in town center which was ideal and parking although not on site was free and only a 5 minute walk, considering Morpeth parking that's great
