The Loutrel

We had a wonderful stay for our anniversary and it was holiday decorated so beautifully! Complimentary snacks and cocktail on arrival. Rafael Abreu was our valet, he was so helpful with our luggage and car. Our room, 201, was large, quiet and bedding was so comfy! 2 sinks in the bathroom made getting ready a breeze. The location of The Loutrel is very convenient for walking to great restaurants, shopping and for sight seeing!

Fantastic hotel. The room was very clean and comfortable. The staff is exceptional, very friendly and accommodating. The breakfast was very good. Our valet attendant, Rafael Abreu was so friendly and assured my husband he would take good care of his car, which he did. Will definitely stay at this hotel again.

Our stay at The Loutrel was beyond anything I could have imagined. Rafael Abreu at the valet desk was fantastic—friendly, professional, and made the start of our trip so pleasant. The hotel itself is impeccable. Every detail, from design to service, feels intentionally perfect. It’s rare to find a place that makes you feel truly spoiled in every way. This is now my favorite hotel in Charleston.

I can’t say enough good things about The Loutrel! From the moment we arrived, every detail was flawless. Rafael Abreu handled the valet with professionalism, friendliness, and just the right amount of charm—he really made us feel welcome. The hotel itself exceeded every expectation I had. It’s clear they spared no effort in creating a perfect experience; every corner, every detail felt intentional. Hotels like this truly don’t exist anymore. We will absolutely be back.

I was a guest in this hotel earlier this month. It’s a lovely, charming place in a great location. I received several communications prior to checking in asking about upgrades and preferences. I made one request to Luis V; a room far from an elevator. I was given a room across from the elevator; it would’ve been impossible to be any closer to the elevator. In a survey after my stay, I noted my request and proximity to the elevator. Management responded that no other rooms were available. Roughly 95% of rooms are further from the elevator than mine. My room rate was nearly $500 a night. Management's response was unsatisfying and dismissive. My room was spacious with nice decor. Unfortunately, It smelled like sewerage. The front desk agent assured me this was “no worry,” clearly unaware of the extreme impact of the odor . Management then called to explain the odor was from high tide which would pass in an hour. An hour has passed. The smell did not. I suppose this is something the hotel cannot control, but guests should know the situation. Your room may have an unpredictably, uncontrollable odor. If you have a keen olfactory sense, you may want to consider another property. Overall, I liked this hotel and may stay again but will ask specific questions in advance of booking a room.

Upon arrival, you realize that it is a special place to be at. The ambiance was welcoming and the staff friendly. After getting to our room, it was spacious and wonderful. The rooftop was a a special treat to enjoy the views of the city. Between the church bells to the west and the bustling market to the east, it was a perfect spot to plot our days and sip a cocktail in the evening. With the location being walkable to restaurants, carriage rides, markets, and upscale shopping you may think it’s the center of downtown. Would recommend sampling one of Leah’s cocktails as they are amazing and the banter fresh.

I wish every hotel I went to operated with the same level of service and excellence in atmosphere as The Loutrel . Every detail was so thoughtful and well executed. We had so much fun staying there. You get all the Luxury without any arrogance. The level of warmth and care that we experienced made our trip so much better. Plus the added bonus of quiet rooms, lush beds, and delicious breakfast and snacks. Thank you to The Loutrel for a special experience .

Every detail of our stay was truly perfect from start to finish! Leah and Riley were the most welcoming and friendly bartenders—we instantly felt at home, and their energy made every visit to the bar a blast. The hotel’s amazing rooftop happy hour was the icing on the cake: fabulous drinks, stunning views, and the perfect spot to unwind. The location is ideal—tucked just off the beaten path so it’s peaceful and quiet, yet still walking distance to everything. Rafael Abren was incredible as well; he greeted us with a warm smile and gave us a simple, thoughtful tour of the mezzanine and our room. His attention to detail and genuine hospitality set the tone for the whole stay. Everyone we encountered was wonderful. This is hospitality at its finest, and we can’t wait to come back!
