Suigetsu Machiya House

Nearly everything: traditional house, very nice garden.

Location was nice, although there weren't many restaurants in the immediate surrounding area.

It's a beautiful place, the dripping sound of water from the nice small Japanese Garden really adds to the whole tranquil atmosphere. The staff is extremely friendly and helpful too.

The nearest train station is quite a distance away. However you can easily call a cab or Uber to get to where you want.

Lovely interior combining tradition with modern amenities. The house was clean, spacious and very well equipped. Our luggage was transported from the check-in desk near Kyoto Station to our accommodation free of charge. The location was good, a railway station, taxi stand and several convenience stores all within walking distance.

Frustrating lock system at the front door. Bathroom had a plumbing issue when we arrived, affecting the water drainage in the shower, sink and toilet. This took three days to be fixed after we reported it and should have been noticed by housekeeping prior to our arrival. Couldn't find any luggage racks and a few coat hooks in the entrance area would have been convenient. Only a small make-up mirror in the bathroom and nowhere to hang the towels. It was very chilly inside the house due to lack of insulation, wouldn't recommend staying during the winter months. Beaware the house has some very high steps and an extremely steep staircase!
