Belvilla Newport City Centre Hotel - Lifestyle

I decided not to stay in this grubby, smelly hotel that had the feel of a hostel! I have literally never done this before, but I chose to sleep on a friend’s sofa at the age of 67 rather than stay at this hotel. I was unable to claim a refund because I hadn’t paid the extra amount. I’m still very angry about it, because as a woman travelling alone I would have felt unsafe in this tatty, unkempt, dilapidated place. I’ve stayed in hotels on all but one continent on the planet, but this is the first I’ve refused to stay in.

AVOID AT ALL COSTS. Booked this place for one overnight stay. We went somewhere else. The place looks deserted. No staff. Had to speak to a man on ‘check in’ via a video phone. Looks like it’s been abandoned. Didn’t feel safe to stay there. Will be trying to get a refund. Terrible.

First impression of the hotel was terrible, 3 guys sitting at the front desk very intimidating, hardly spoke word of English and not very friendly. Bar wasn't open and downstairs was all closed off. Room itself was nice but only one mug and a tea bag for 2 people. I asked for more but never received. Overall the reception people made me feel uncomfortable and unwelcomed.

Decent, if basic, hotel. Room was clean, modern and well decorated. Bathroom and shower also fine. However, despite being booked in for bed and breakfast, no food was to be seen when I went to the dining area and there were no staff around (including at the very basic reception desk) to take this up with.

Awful . If you want to sleep after the Very Loud music from the club over the road until 3AM then this is just the place for you . Even when I complained at midnight the two guys at the desk clearly didn’t care whatsoever . DO NOT GO HERE !!!! The club was open on a TUESDAY ! So must be every single night . I only wished I checked the reviews before booking , it was recommended by Booking.com , who I will NEVER use again either .

Bed was comfortable. The bars are noisy, it was the weekend, but the base is very loud, and goes on until late. The entrance to the hotel was nice and tidy, and we were able to check in early, from there it all got interesting, the room key cards have different room numbers on them, mine did not work, it was not even programmed for the room, we went out and when we returned the same, key did not work, went down to reception, was given another key, room number was written on it not programmed, followed to the room by a member of staff, he let us in with his master key, was given a random card to put in the electric key inside the room. This was the same for another couple. It would seem that they had no facility to reprogramme the cards, just to write room numbers on them in permanent marker! Good job the front desk is 24/7. The room was ok, a little tired, but bearable. If the key cards issue was sorted then it would be ok. Everything seemed to be running off random bits of paper.

Very noisy due to nightclubs staying until 3:30 AM being in proximity. No daily room service .

We used this hotel as it was close to a job that we were doing. For a stay as a couple, I’d give it a wide berth. Staff were friendly and efficient enough, no complaints there. Hotel was same decor as a premier inn but obviously lacks the same funding. Hotel was soulless and needs a revamp. It’s definitely not a boutique hotel or a 4star. No breakfast, no bar! 2 stars at most.

Really amazing Staff and very helpful, great sized rooms also.
