Belvilla Newport City Centre Hotel - Lifestyle

My husband and I booked this hotel ( also called Pallette Modern Newport) weeks before a concert we were going to in Cardiff via Booking.com .We travelled a long way to be there - checked the night before that my booking was confirmed . When we arrived they said there was no booking in our name. Checked my Booking.com account and had cancelled our booking just 4.5 hours before check in time!! Left us high and dry on a very busy Friday night . By the time we found somewhere else to stay we had missed the beginning of concert and had no time to eat . Sounds like by other reviews they have a habit of doing this. Never again !

THIS HOTEL IS A FARCE, also known as Pallette Modern. Guaranteed they will cancel your booking a few days before. We had 5 rooms booked and slowly one by one they said a problem with the room and we need to cancel. Seen it on loads of previous reviews but thought no we will be ok - we wasn’t! Cancelled on us - jokers stay clear

Hotel poorly managed staff rude cannot take responsibility. Was put in a severely damp room with damp patch hidden by spair bed and curtains. My clothes that were on spair bed damaged by mould over 4 days. Staff took no responsibility and refused contact details of managers - extremely rude and uncaring. Second time around was put in a room with no signal then moved to another with broken chair that they failed to change 2 days. Room NOT cleaned as policy is clean after 3 days. Disguting!!!

With a little more effort and attention to detail this could be a brilliant place to stay. The building is full of character and the reception area is okay, but with a bit of effort it could be stunning. My room was clean and a decent size, although there was quite a few areas that needed dusting and the walls were due a coat of paint. But the main problem was air circulation, the windows in the room were sealed shut and the aircon was switched off (I asked about the aircon and was told it would not be switched on until the summer). With the room being so hot I woke up in a room that felt uncomfortable and stuffy. The only way I could refresh the room was to wedge the door open. The other main issue is the noise, if your in a room with the last two numbers between 01 & 10 you should be fine. If the last two numbers are 14 and over your probably not going to get much sleep. The noise from the club is unreal, the bass can be felt through the walls and floor. I really don't think they should be putting guests in the rooms at that end of the building until they reduce the level of noise considerably. The building is really nice, and the rooms are large. With a bit more attention and some minor adjustments this could be a great hotel, but unfortunately I think the hotel will end up like a lot of the others in Newport and be used as temporary accommodation rather than focusing on being a great hotel.

Was a bit uncertain about booking this hotel due to reviews but we found it to be comfortable and clean. We had a double room with double and single bed, nice bathroom and plenty of towels. There was also a kettle, cups, tea and coffee. When we entered the room it was a bit cold but we turned off the air conditioning and it was fine after that. Staff were friendly and pleasant so we were quite happy. There is not a bar there but there are plenty of places very close by.

Nice clean hotel that included free cooked breakfast. Comfortable and clean bedroom Location was perfect with off site parking and the train station both a minutes walk away. Close to Newport market with its incredible food court and close to music venue Le Pub which was reason for our stay

Great short stay, parking nearby on NCP Newport High Street. Short walk from shopping centre. Room did have burns in the carpet and bedding had eyeliner/mascara stains on arrival

Newport was busy as there was a conference being held at the time of my stay. My usual hotel was fully booked so I stayed at the Belvilla, I could only book the assisted room as it was all that was available. It was very clean with a nice size bed which was very comfortable, room was clean and well presented. Good quality bed linen and towels, loads of coffee and tea . I had a great nights sleep and had a nice cooked breakfast in the morning which was included in the room price. Staff were very friendly and check in was a dream, breakfast was very well run even though the hotel was busy with all choices available and freshly cooked.

Proximity to station. Quiet.
