Its over a month after our stay and despite me paying our bill on departure they are still hanging on to my credit card deposit of £996.00 as a pending / hold payment that they wont release. This means my available credit limit is nearly £1000 down and my card company can't raise a dispute over pending payment. Come on Botanika and please sort yourselves out with your payment administration and deposit release!

Rooms were luxury

Overpriced and bad location if you want to leave hotel on foot.

The room was a suite with a beautiful kitchen and patio. The bed was comfortable. The bathroom had a good shower. The view outside our room was pleasant.

The bedroom window didn't open so we had to sleep with the A/C on. There was a cool breeze and would have preferred to sleep with a window open. We arrived at 3 pm and the restaurant didn't open til 6 so I asked where I can get something light to eat. They said, there's a market here. The "market" was a convenience store, like you'd find at a gas station. Not one piece of fresh fruit or cheese. Only unhealthy snacks with seed oils, preservatives and artificial colorings. This is supposed to be a luxury hotel. We wound up buying a tiny bag of crackers for $14. If we spent $30 they offered a free ice cream. But the choice was theirs. They pointed to a tiny ice cream bar that looked like a toy for a child, filled with artificial colors and preservatives. I complained on the hotel's app and was told I should go to the supermarket which was about a 30 min drive. At 6 pm we went to find the restaurant. No signage. Dark passageways and entryway. We saw a bar and decided to ask in there. There was no one inside the bar or anyone to greet us. Finally found the restaurant. The meal was ok but I wound up getting a very severe upset stomach later that night (those crackers? the dinner?) that kept me up all night, and decided to cut our trip short. When we told them we were leaving (I had booked 3 nights) they wanted to charge us 50% on the second and third night. It took about 45 minutes of arguing before they agreed to reverse the charges. The surrounding area looked like a slum and very unsafe to walk around. Not one store or shop to look at. The beach seemed unsafe. It looks like Hilton bought up a piece of inexpensive land in a non-tourist type area and built a "luxury" hotel. This was not a luxury experience.

Proximity to wildlife hotspots and dramatic nature is excellent. Beautiful, well maintained grounds. We saw some of the best wildlife nearby - all independently of the hotel and its affiliates.

The staff weren't just incompetent, they were deliberately rude. Paying for a suite with a kitchen, which includes an oven (as clearly indicated by the photos on the listing) and then being told to go back out and buy single-use aluminium foil cooking trays from the supermarket if we want to use the oven - is frankly appalling. The reception staff are the worst of the worst! Restaurant staff are also bad, practically begging for tips - and that's after being ripped off by high prices ($60 for two mediocre sandwiches (no sides either by the way) and a 330ml can of local beer each) - with the local mandatory 13% tax and 10% service charge hidden in illegible small print at the bottom of the already highly priced menu. Rooms felt very shut off from nature. We couldn't wait to leave and get back out to the real Costa Rica. We tried to leave a day early but, unsurprisingly, the rude woman at reception took pleasure in refusing this request - after doing everything she possibly could to make our stay miserable throughout. The staff look down on you as though they work in a luxury hotel and somewhere guests are beneath them - they seem to forget who's paying for luxury (and not receiving anything like it by the way), and who's working on such low money (we the pool bar waiter explained to me) that they need to ask guests for tips). I wouldn't mind giving tips if the bill wasn't extortionate or if the service and quality lived up to the price - everywhere else I've been I've tender to tip generously because I've felt it was deserved - here though, they act as though they're entitled to take your money and give you absolutely the worse service you've ever experienced - it's almost like it's a joke, as though it's deliberately terrible. Incredibly rude, ignorant and completely naive to how their standards actually measure up against other accommodation options. We were disgusted and will never return to this hotel.

This a great place for getting immersed in the nature of Costa Rica. Despite it being a resort, it did not feel too hectic or crowded. The staff was friendly and attentive everywhere, and the wildlife sightings we had were incredible. We saw something new every ten minutes it seemed. When I booked this hotel, I didn't realize it would have so many trials around the property, but as a birder/wildlife photographer, I was so glad it did. The beach is quiet and peaceful and the pool had plenty of space and seats. It is in within easy walking distance to town, though it can be very hot midday, and the hotel will call a cab for those who would prefer that, too.

O Hotel era maravilhoso, em meio a natureza e com uma piscina incrível. Os quartos são confortáveis e tem uma menu de travesseiros, ou seja, você pode escolher entre 6 tipos de travesseiros que estão a sua disposição. Amei isso. O Hotel também disponibiliza traslado de barco até uma praia próxima que é realmente linda e o passeio vale muito a pena.

Achei o café da manhã bastante básico para um custo de 25 dólares por pessoa. Até poderiam cobrar esse valor , desde que as opções oferecidas fizessem jus ao preço cobrado
