Sierra Blue Hotel & Swim Club

It served the purpose of being not far from the main street and walking distance from the fireworks watch point. There was good parking and even a Tesla charger.

Like most properties in Big Bear this one was somewhat shabby. The front desk person made us pay extra for early check in suggesting they were full which makes no sense since we came 40 min early and there HAD to be a room for us anyways. Then he wanted to offer us some other pay for extras. Overall felt like we’re being taken advantage of.

Good first impressions with cute, liveable room, friendly staff & indoor pool that refreshingly didn't smell mildewy (though the jacuzzi was cold & not working, since fixed). Poor later when our room wasn't serviced- the manager on duty said they don't do housekeeping. I said that is not noted on their website, nor on confirmation, nor at check in. He responded he's worked at thousands of hotels & they just tell you at check in IF they happen to do housekeeping. I responded that I'm at least 30 tears older than him, have been to 102 countries & have never had any of the few hotels who DON'T offer housekeeping (even during COVID) fail to communicate ALL 3 ways I mentioned here. Review would have been 5 if based solely on that early delight & a 1 if based solely on that later disappointment, so I give it a 3 here, & just want set up future guest expectations fairly since they refuse to at any step in the process.

Sierra Blue is a pet friendly hotel, yet it didn’t stink like pets. I’ve got allergies and I appreciated that. My only complaint is that the internet kept rebuffering when trying to watch TV.

Extremely old and outdated. The carpet had to be over 25 years old.... disgusting!

This location is in walking distance to Big Bear village.

I love the room but the lack of water pressure made it hard to take a shower.

The rooms are spacious with a boutique feel. Walking distance to the Village.

The bathroom does not have enough space for toiletries, and the shower would go from hot to cold. No ice machine, but they sell ice.

Pros: Walking distance to The Village. Thoughtful and considerate staff. Comfortable bed. Some elevated touches such as the air purifier in the hallways. White noise machine in the room (as a solution for some other reviews mentioning noise in hallways/through walls). Cons: Bathroom updates done sloppily, mold on ceiling, and paint peeling off window sill. Unfortunately not very clean - animal fur was on the comforter and Pendleton blanket - which is an issue for those with allergies/asthma (like me).

Absolutely disgusting room. Filthy sheets. Dog and human hair everywhere. Dirt and toe nail clipping in sheets. No manager ever even called to address it. They moved me to a room with double/queen bed even though I selected a king originally. Awful.

Nice modern decor in the room.
