Buahan, a Banyan Tree Escape

Buahan is, without exaggeration, the best hotel I’ve ever stayed in — and in so many ways it completely redefines what a hotel can be. There are no walls, no doors, and no barriers between you and nature, yet you somehow feel more comfortable, safe, and deeply cared for than anywhere else. The location is a bit remote, but it is absolutely worth the journey. Once you arrive, the setting feels untouched and sacred, surrounded by jungle and mountains that are genuinely breathtaking. From check-in — where you’re invited to ring a wooden bell (I don’t know the Balinese name, but the ritual alone sets the tone) — everything feels intentional and special. The service is exceptional on every level: warm, intuitive, and incredibly attentive. The rooms (or bales) were always impeccably clean. Every time we left for breakfast or dinner, housekeeping would quietly refresh the space, so we returned each time to a perfectly tidy, serene room — a detail that made a huge difference. The food and cocktails are out of this world. Every day we enjoyed set menus for both breakfast and dinner, and they never disappointed. I loved their philosophy of 70% fruits and vegetables and 30% animal protein — nourishing, creative, and beautifully balanced. Dietary preferences and restrictions are handled effortlessly and with care. Our host, Adi, was phenomenal — incredibly accommodating, friendly, attentive… and yes, very handsome (cheeky but true). He genuinely elevated our stay and made everything feel effortless. We also had a spa day with a couples massage, and the two therapists were fantastic. They made us feel comfortable, safe, and completely relaxed — the kind of massage where time simply disappears. Staying in the bale was magical. We had a few jungle visitors — ground birds and a gecko — which only made the experience more immersive. The bale’s infinity pool was stunning, and even though the water was cold, we used it every single day. It’s worth noting that the noise levels can be a bit loud at times — but it’s not human noise, it’s nature in its purest form. Birds, insects, the jungle breathing around you. If anything, it reinforces how unique and alive this place truly is. Buahan isn’t just a hotel — it’s an experience, a philosophy, and a memory that stays with you long after you leave. Truly unforgettable.

Wow! We absolutely loved Banyan Tree Buahan. We stayed at the Banyan Tree Phuket and loved it so we wanted to try another one of their properties. Banyan Tree Phuket was nice but this was next level. The open air room was stunning . Loved the private pool and tub overlooking the jungle. The bed was super comfortable and it was so peaceful and relaxing to look out onto the jungle from all vantage points. The food was five star. The plant based meals full of local produce were absolutely delicious. Breakfast was amazing but the multiple course dinners felt Michelin starred. We didn't know dinner was included so what a pleasant surprise. The food was outstanding. The craft cocktails with local produce were excellent. The botanist bar was incredible. Arsuan and the bar supervisor (didn't catch his name) were both so talented and gracious. Some of the best fresh cocktails Ive ever had. Yoga in the pavilion overlooking the jungle with Bintang was great. The customer service here was absolutely amazing and impeccable. EVERYONE was so incredibly kind, gracious, accommodating, polite, friendly and helpful. Even the staff working on grounds maintenance greeted you warmly. Special shout out to our concierge, Deegus, who was exceptional. So kind, welcoming, helpful and accommodating. This property far exceeded our expectations. Top notch from top to bottom. HIGHLY recommend!

We were there for birthday trip. Resort is in the middle of the nature, surround by lot of trees. It is on the mountain and it was quite cool at night time. We were greeted and escorted to the room by our love and attentive hosts Budi and Wadi. They were checking on us during the stay and assisted every time we need them. Room comes with no door no wall concept which is very unique style. You don’t need AC as the temperature is cool. There are full option of amenities and they got everything you may need. Resort got top notch security where you don’t need the key for your room. The room was clean every time when we came back to our room from outside. Spa was excellent, I did hot stone massage which was very relaxing and I just fell asleep. My partner did island massage which he loved it too. Special mentioned to our therapists. We did candle making with Yuta who was very gentle and lovely. We learned what resort and local try to do for the sustainability and we shared the experience. The food is completely healthy, there is only one restaurant in the resort. For the breakfast and dinner each day different. We are not a fan of the food there but we had lovely room service a la cart menu. If you are there you can ask them to help you with the scooter rental which came with new scooter and in a good condition. One last thing is don’t forget to check it out the waterfall in the resort, it was nice trekking to get there and it was very quiet. Our host even brought us shoes and a bag of what you may need like mosquito spray, towels and first aid kit. The place is really amazing, beautiful as the pictures and peaceful as we expected. The room is very clear and the staff is amazing as well. What we dont expected is that our stay would be also a gastronomic experience, the food is really something. Every day a different menu, with stunning combinations of food and drinks. We dont remember very well the name of all employess that care of us, but our special thanks to Mr. Arsana, Ms. Olive and the internal, Ms Tini!

I really cannot find anything to complain.

Nestled in the jungles and rice fields of Bali, north of Ubud, is the very beautiful Banyan Tree Escape. My husband and I stayed in the over the waterfall balé and we loved hearing the sound of the waterfall in our open air room. We loved the private pool, the gorgeous 2-person tub, and being part of nature among the trees. The service was excellent, with Widi. Budi, and Oji standing out as above and beyond for their attention to us throughout our stay. There are many wellness offerings to take advantage of, and we enjoyed hiking down to the waterfall and being immersed in our beautiful surroundings. We enjoyed a campfire our first night and it was lovely. For us the only negative was the set menu dinner, we preferred eating from the round a clock menu for dinner as we were interested in a more casual, private dinner experience at the balé. We spent four nights here and throroughly enjoyed ourselves.
