Kissel Uptown had a great vibe. Relaxing and comfortable to hang out in the lobby with coffee or a few drinks.

An unexpected treasure in the heart of Oakland. I had no expectations but would definitely stay there again in the future.

I had a wonderful stay at the Kissel Hotel and would absolutely come back! When I travel, sleep quality and cleanliness are my top priorities, and this place delivered on both. The bed was incredibly comfortable, the blackout curtains kept the room nice and dark, and everything felt spotless and well cared for. The hotel itself is also beautiful—thoughtfully designed and just a really pleasant place to be. I especially loved the reusable aluminum water bottles provided at check-in and the water refill stations throughout the hotel. Makes it easy to stay hydrated! The only downside for me was the mandatory destination fee. We didn’t end up using any of the included perks or discounts, so it felt like an unnecessary added cost. It would be great if guests had the option to opt out. Overall, though, a wonderful stay and a hotel I’d definitely recommend.

We had a lovely weekend at the Kissel! The hotel decor is beautiful! And the location is wonderful! We were able to walk 1 mile to the farmers market near Lake Merritt. Our check in with Marley was smooth. She made us feel welcome. And breakfast at Otto’s was unexpectedly delicious with options like Matcha French Toast, Fried chicken and waffles, and crab cake Benedict! Moreover, the service we received from Emily C at the restaurant was phenomenal! She took such excellent care of us and really set the tone for our wonderful day!

Skeptical about the reviews I read set high- and the quality of the service. Every member of staff we came into contact with were excellent. Attentive, helpful, friendly.

The room had many thoughtful touches - motion-activated night lights on the base of the bed, a terrific make-up mirror in the bathroom, a wonderful hot shower, nice firm bed, and lots of coffee and tea to make at our leisure. The restaurant and bar had good food - nice choices - and lovely staff members served us.

The outdoor refuge space is a great idea, but I think it would be nicer if it was more private -perhaps cover the windows to shield it from people looking in as they walk down the hall. And the chairs could be more comfortable - cushions perhaps.

The Kissel is an absolutely fantastic place to stay. It’s one of those hotels that hits the mark, full bullseye, every time I stay there. The staff is exceptional. I wish every hotel was like the Kissel!
