Éteka Slow Beach Hotel

The place is amazing, and now with the pool it is even better than before!

Lovely site, well appointed. Staff very professional. Food good, especially the breakfast which was superb. The junior suite was very nice.

Don’t be deceived by the pictures. Tierra Bomba is not a particularly nice island in terms of the water quality, the facilities, and the views. Not the Caribbean paradise we had envisaged. We also didn’t like that bottled water was quite expensive and the tap water wasn’t drinkable. Over the course of a week this added up quite a lot. There was also loud music (mostly not Colombian, just regular chart music) playing all over the site for most of the day. Disturbed afternoon naps and meant reading by the pool or the beach was not very relaxing. This is a problem elsewhere in Colombia. It seems to be an extrovert culture which equates loud music with atmosphere. For us, hoping to relax and have some chilled time on a Caribbean island, it was not what we were looking for. Respect to what they’re trying to achieve with Eteka, but they haven’t quite worked out if they are a beach club or a boutique hotel. We thought it was the latter and on that front they didn’t quite manage it for us. Not an unpleasant stay, but we wouldn’t go back.

The place was beautiful and very well-kept. The staff was very friendly and super helpful. It was definitely a very nice place to relax from a busy Cartagena. The place had a very nice spa (recommend it), pool area, open "cinema", view of Cartagena (amazing view at night), and plenty of little places to sit and relax. They have many people working on the site (probably as much as guests), so there was always somebody there to help with anything. They even helped us book a boat to visit Islas del Rosario. The food was delicious (a bit expensive for Colombia, but considering you are on an island, there were prices I was happy to pay). It's definitely a place to relax or go as a couple. There are a few visitors during the day, coming for the day passes, but at night, it gets very quiet and chill, which is totally okay, but it depends on what you are after. I was travelling with a cousin, and we had been parting a lot in Bogota and Cartagena, so we needed a couple of nights to chill before going to Medellin. It was a perfect place to relax and unwind. I would gladly visit again.

Communications with the hotel online weren't great. Before arriving, I asked if they could help arrange a boat tour to Islas del Rosario (or if they knew where we could get one), and they said they didn't know. Once I got to the hotel, the receptionist helped me and booked me a private tour on the spot. They also sent me a message saying I would have to leave the hotel at my check-out time (so I couldn't stay to enjoy the pool, beach, or restaurant/bar) because there was going to be a private event. This was very annoying, as I was told before my cancellation time, and we booked a flight late at night to enjoy the hotel during the day. It turned out there was no event, and we were allowed to stay, so we did. There were also a few flies, which were a bit annoying during breakfast, but the staff did their best to keep them away. It was a bit annoying, but nothing that would have prevented me from enjoying my stay.

Lovely room, the entire hotel is set up in a way that feels relaxing. Air con was brilliant. Breakfast was really nice and you chose from a menu of range of things -Food, Smoothie and a coffee. Was delicious. Very clean everywhere I saw. Lots of staff around attending to the beautiful grounds. There was a violinist over dinner which was a nice touch even in low Season. Short boat ride included. Team very communicative over WhatsApp with some last minute questions.

Being low season there wasn’t many people to feel A hotel vibe. Only stayed one night but certainly chill venue and that’s all I wanted to do.
