"getting there happy; leaving sad and frustrated"

For the past ten years, we have been travelling from Europe every year to New England in August to pick up our sons at camp. This has allowed us to see quite a few places, some good, some very good and a few bad. Our 2-day stay at Inness, despite the location and architecture, has been the most frustrating and disapointing experience. It started with a reservation at their restaurant at 8pm, where we said that we wanted a table outside. We arrived 15 minutes early, were told to enjoy a drink, then to wait a bit more, and finally informed at 8.30 that it would be at least another 20-minute wait (with a lot of apologies from the manager but without guarantee on the time!). As some tables were clearly available, it was either incompetence (possible) or deceit (likely). With all restaurants around past service time, we ended up eating crackers in our room. By the way, the hotel did not forget to charge the drinks and the biscuits. With such experience in mind, we then started to notice the sub-standard points at Inness : noise coming from the adjacent house during the night, loud music at the pool, no day cleaning in the room,.... ...hence the grade : two stars for the location, missing 3 stars for the service.

One of the most picturesque places I’ve stayed in ny! I saw over 30 species during my stay. the style is gorgeous, the food is delicious and the beds are so comfortable :)

The distance between the parking/dining and lodging has a bit of a hill and is difficult for people with limited mobility, but there was a very nice option to be shuttled by jeep. I would love to see some more benches on the walk way and the trail system for guests to take rests. :)

remote location, landscape, good design, great and friendly staff, the jeep rides

one thing to improve would be to serve a lightweight breakfast in the farmhouse, ideally from local produce
