Hotel Xa´an Bacalar

Staff was nice.

It smelled of mould (especially next to ned which ja very unfortunate for sleeping) , there were many mosquitoes inside the room, the water tap was broken and the bathroom was very smelly and mouldy/dirty. Breakfast was very poor.

Outside area with terrace and pool was really nice to hang out at. Bed was huge, yet extremely creaky. Location was good, less than 10 minute walk to center, so it was a quiet place. Good functioning airco. Kind staff.

Shower was terrible, had to screw off the nozzle to get a proper water flow. Bathroom smelled quite bad, and was not very clean. Also the toilet paper basket was only cleaned after two days (when asked). Room was very humid, water stains on the ceiling.

Room has a lot off space which is nice. 10 min walk to the center and a nice relaxing area.

Shower could be cleaned better and more beds at the pool would be great

really cute hotel just outside of the town. They have bikes to rent so not a problem getting around. Peaceful area & friendly staff. Cute hammock hangout area and Spacious rooms. definitely recommend!

The facilities at the hotel were limited but we found out we could use the beach access of a sister hotel which was gorgeous!

Breakfast was very basic. Would prefer not to be charged and purchase from third parties. Fruit loops and packaged toast from the supermarket should not qualify as a continental breakfast. There was sewage trickling in front of the reception/ in parking lot which made getting to the car unpleasant. our sink tap didn’t work. Room was very basic and staff couldn’t speak any English although tried their best to help us.

Great big comfy bed, good hot shower, clean, with fan and AC. The breakfast (fruit, fresh coffee) was a lovely surprise. We were also really grateful to rent bikes directly from the hotel for $150mxn a day each. The terrace is beautiful and we sat out alone in the evenings playing chess and cards. Staff helpful and area is quiet and feels safe. 10 mins walk to the ‘busier’ parts of Bacalar. We also booked the recommended lagoon tour through the hotel after scoping out others in the town ($400mxn for a 2 hr pontoon tour with swimming and an hour kayaking) and found it was good value for money. There is also drinking water available communally.

We had to wait an hour to check in as the room hadn’t been cleaned, however this might have been a one-off. Backpackers should be aware that you are not permitted to dry clothes/towels on the terrace rails.

The room is spacious. Good water pressure and hot water. Air conditioning worked well. The terrace and the pool area is very nice. Wifi is ok. The beach club that you could use is nice but a little far away. I recommend a taxi to reach the destination. Its not direct in the city center but its only a 10 to 15 min walk to reach the restaurants and bars. For us this is absolutely fine.

Cleanliness. The bathroom was not cleaned. There was a shaver and a lot of hair in the shower. Bed linen was very dirty.
