Friendly and helpful staff. Perfect location for starting the Hump Ridge Great Walk. Excellent bathroom and kitchen facilities. Great block-out curtains. Great range of extras available: BBQ, spa pool, tramping food, sand-fly repellent...

Our room was a bit small, but we managed :)

The team at Rarakau lodge have to be hands down the most hospitable hosts I've meet in New Zealand. Absolutely beautiful people in an amazing spot. Highly recommend if you are doing the Humpridge Track or just want to get away for a night or two

Blake hosted us and made us feel very welcome and comfortable. We loved sitting in the spa bath at the end of our hike with Blake's special brew of alo mojito. The hot shower, coffee and pastries were also devine!

Die Gastgeber waren überaus freundlich, haben uns überall rumgeführt und die Tiere gezeigt. Außerdem waren sie mit uns Muscheln Sammel und haben uns auch danach die Marinade zubereitet und beim Kochen geholfen. Es war wirklich ein außergewöhnlich toller Aufenthalt, den wir nicht so schnell vergessen werden. Es ist dort auch sehr gemütlich und es gibt eine große Auswahl an Tees und Kakao etc.

Kelly is amazing and the absolute best host! Location is ideal before the start of the Humpridge, you can roll out of bed and start walking. It was warm, great cooking facilities, everything you need.

I chose to stay here because of the remote location (rather than in Tuatapere itself) and to see what it was like for potential future tramping trips etc. I was very impressed with the lodge manager and the hospitality she provided. She was very friendly and makes guests feel at home, had the fire lit in mornings and evenings to make the place cosy in the cold weather, and went out of her way to be of assistance if needed. I enjoyed the remoteness and quiet, the interesting drive to and from, the night sky, the comfortable bed, well equiped kitchen and the surprising addition of Netflicks and Youtube channels on TV (as well as the usual TV). It was more than the basic sleeping accommodation that I was expecting. Great that it stays open in the winter, and good to also find that it was all powered by solar energy.
