The Modernist Hotel

Parking was a couple of blocks away but we found a space on the street practically across from the hotel. Room was lovely and staff was kind and efficient. Would have enjoyed someplace to eat or shop nearby but it was a completely residential area.

I will definitely be back. Its a perfect place to hide from the big city. I loved the design of the room. From what I remember its a boutique hotel, family owned, and artsy. I think the only thing i could complain about was that there wasnt much opportunity to really talk to the front desk, but the little interactions we had were good either way. After a long day it i was happy to come back to a very comfortable bed.

We loved our home away from home. What a unique find! It was amazing to have a separate living room and kitchen area, not to mention a huge private patio that was especially amazing lit up at night, with views. We were wowed! All this for a very reasonable price. An incredible find. Plus the staff is super friendly, and the lobby doubles as an art gallery. SO cool. The neighborhood felt very safe and walkable and had a great vibe. It was easy to get to the subway or go eat nearby. We would definitely stay here again. I think it was supposed to be able to sleep 3 if you included the couch, but I don't think that was realistic for our particular room.

We warmly recommend The Modernist Hotel, where we spent a wonderful week visiting New York in late April 2025. The staff are very kind, welcoming, and accommodating (special thanks to the charming hostess who recommended we take the NYC Ferry for a ride along the East River — it was amazing!). The room was spacious, with a lovely view; everything was comfortable and spotlessly clean. Lovely rooftop view overlooking the skyscrapers of Long Island City. The location is very convenient, with several subway lines accessible within walking distance. We’ll definitely stay here again on our next visit to New York — no doubt about it!

Helpful staff

Our host was friendly, helpful and knowledgeable about the area. Since this was an unfamiliar neighborhood, we really appreciated the welcome and guidance. We loved our room! We were disappointed that there wasn't a roof deck as advertised. We liked that they featured a local artist in their public lounge space.

This is a small, quiet hotel with limited service. The staff is generally fine, but nothing exceptional. One major issue is the poor room insulation — sound easily travels between rooms, which can be disruptive. Overall, it’s a basic place that works if you’re not expecting too much.
