PORTER HOTEL - Surf & Yoga Retreat

O quarto, cama, chuveiro são perfeitos. O café da manhã é pago, porém com preço justo.

A localização para quem não tem moto é longe do centro, tudo dependia de táxi, que não era barato.

It was amazing. The calm feeling you get. The nice people who works there. Its very good clean food.

A little bit outside of the sentrum, but since you can fix a taxi driver very easy and not expensive- i would not say its not a problem at all.

Our room was really noisy- really early in the morning people would be moving furniture in the rooftop area above the room. The pool was a bit cloudy, and the water bottle provided the room was mouldy. I got pretty bad diarrhoea for a few days after staying - not sure if it was from the bottle or not but it would line up. I didn’t see the mould till after drinking - I should have mentioned it to the staff, because the next day the bottle had just been topped up so I don’t think they are getting cleaned regularly.

I loved Porter, the staff was amazing (!!) and the facilities just as nice. It may be located a bit "off" but I thought that came with a calmness (up until the construction started) that was surprising for Kuta. The food and drinks are great, I still miss the chicken wrap and tokio chicken. I stayed in the dorms of the hotel, and honestly the rooms and beds were great - stable bunks with curtains you can pull to give you some peace if needed. Liked that the lockers were outside so you did not have to wake ppl / be woken by ppl going surfing at 05.00! Pool area is outstanding - but could use some more sunbeds from time to time! To be noted: I stayed at Porter twice. After a short trip to other parts of Indonesia, I was heading back to Lombok and could not imagine staying anywhere else. And this was despite the ongoing construction when I was there.

My first stay I had the breakfast package, but for a place that has "all-day breakfast" for its walk-ins I did not understand ahead of booking that this courtesy was not extended to the breakfast deal guests. In short, I missed a lot of my already paid for breakfasts as I was out surfing with a surf school and sometimes the sessions / transports were delayed. I tried texting a few times and get confirmation that I could have my breakfast later, sometimes it worked but sometimes it was too late in general. I do not really understand the logic behind this, as Porter is a surf retreat (and hence aware of the times you keep) and are serving the breakfast dishes all day anyway. So if you are a morning surfing, I would not recommend paying for the breakfast package. Would also have loved a lounge / hang-out area that was not the pool or the restaurant for even more social opportunities.

This is a beautiful property! I only stayed for one night, but I wish I stayed longer. I had a private room and it was enormous. The staff were very kind and the food was great! The hostel was very quiet when I was there so not very social but I imagine it’s bustling in the high season.

As mentioned in other reviews, there is a very steep hill to get to the hotel. I unfortunately fell off my scooter trying to get down, as the hill was very slippery. There’s actually a sign at the bottom with a number to call if you need help getting up and down the hill - I did not see this, but I recommend you use it!
