Sonder The Schaeffer

The location was fantastic. The exposed brick inside asded to the charm of the old city. Having a washer and dryer was a bonus and very appreciated especially on a rainy day. The flooring is wood which is uneven and has big gaps that collect dirt. The rug in the living area was rather dirty and stained. The exposed shelving in the kitchen where the dishes were kept was dusty.

Location good, clean.

Kitchen not stocked well with utensils - no frying pan for example.

Great for a quick trip. Very easy to get in and nice rooms.

First impressions were that this an ok place. The pictures made the place look nicer than it actually was. The first night went ok. The next day, however we didn't fair so well. We were out for the day, and as New Orleans tends to have we had rain storm. Upon arriving at the hotel, we found the roof leaking all over our luggage and stuff that was in our bedroom. Of course, my husband called the number given, because there was no one on site, and no one was available, so the best they could do was to get us some extra towels to soak up the water. He then sent an email and was told they were sorry for the inconvenience, but nothing could be done. They emailed back asking for pictures, those were sent. Never heard anything for hours. We tried again to contact them by phone and was told that someone would come check on it within 16 hours. Someone did arrive after a 3rd phone call. She took pictures and brought us more towels. Our only options were to deal with it or find our own alternate place to stay, out of own pockets. We asked if we would receive any compensation for our trouble and we never heard from them again. This was the worst experience we have ever had at any hotel!

We travel with children and like the space, kitchen laundry and privacy we get at Sonders when we travel, especially for road trips. But this one was a dud. Our unit 401 had a strong mildew odor from the start. It started raining heavily our first day and we got a lot of leaks. Through windows, over electrical boxes. The kitchen looked cute, but didn’t have basic supplies like a pan. I took video of the leaks, but Sonders chat didn’t provide a way to submit it. Based on the smell and how much it rains there, there is no way they didn’t already know. I also found it strange that there was no interest in comping a day or crediting another stay. It just felt like a ‘sucks for you’ moment. We won’t be staying there again. BUT the Dovetail bar on the first floor made some AMAZING drinks and we got some of our best restaurant recommendations from the bartenders.

This was such a great setup in a super convenient location.

Location was good, apartment was comfortable, it was just what we needed, close to the French Quarter.

Keypad entry was temperamental. The distressed look was actually not finishing the interior because it saved money. One wall only would have looked good.
