Kestrel Hotel

The room was US$ 171 (incl taxes) per night for 2 people which I thought was great value for a hotel that's just a short walk to the subway and only 5 min to Reading terminal market which has the best gooey pecan pie. It was clean, offered basic toiletries which I really appreciated since I didn't bring my own soap. We even had complimentary cans of soda. Highly recommend. Will stay there again if I'm ever back in Philly.

This was a great hotel! It was great value and a perfect option that allowed us the option to eat in. We stayed in the Billy Penn studio apartment. The space was clean and spacious. The cooking amenities were great for a short term stay, and a dishwasher was great to ensure cleanliness. The online check-in/out process (timed access code) was very convenient! The codes were easy to use and allowed easy entry into the building and the suite without having to carry around a card or key. There was prompt and friendly service to my questions. We utilized the laundry facilities while we were there. There was a washer/dryer combo for guests upon request. Laundry detergent was available for use. The only downside to the apartment was the window coverings (lack of light blocking blinds). As for the location and parking. The location was not too far from downtown and the reading market is easily within walking distance for most individuals (maybe a 10-15 minute walk depending on your pace). Parking is available but not plentiful. The limited parking encouraged us to limit our driving to ensure our parking space. We did not have a problem parking, but be prepared to walk a block or two.I would stay here again and recommend this to others. This is definitely a hidden gem!

We loved our time at Kestrel and would definitely stay there again! Walking into the building it was light, clean, and smelled nice. The elevator was huge, and the bag storage area was great and convenient. We felt very safe with the keypad locks. The Poor Richard studio was perfect for an anniversary getaway! The bed was so soft, the view was great, the decor was modern and clean, and the bathroom had a neat industrial vibe to it. We loved the full kitchen as well as the tea and coffee. The robes and steamer were nice touches! My husband’s only complaints were that they ran out of shower gel and he didn’t bring any, so he had to use mine which smelled floral! Also, they only gave one small pack of coffee which was only enough to make one pot, so the other mornings he had to go out and buy some. Other than those two minor things, we absolutely loved our time there and would definitely stay again and try out another room in the future! 🙂

Highly recommend this place to anyone! Such a great location with so many walkable options nearby. The building is so clear and the room has everything that you need. The communication was great. I will definitely be staying here again!

The room was ok and I was hoping for more. The use of a kitchenette and a fridge and microwave was a good thing to have. As well as the accommodations for extra towels and the use of the laundry room was helpful. But other than that, there is room for improvement. For one, the communication with the virtual staff on some of my requests was slow and they didn't seem to double check the emails used from hotels.com was entered in correctly on their end, hence a delay on receiving my hotel access information and storage information. Two, Room needs some other amenities such as a radio alarm clock and a monitor/ TV at least for the guest to use during the down time we may have during our visit and to drown out or use as ambient room noise. Also Three, even although hotel has a noise policy, it seems useless if I can still hear all the water pipes and furniture moving (chairs and doors closing) throughout the visit (day and night) due to the lack of insulation of the pipes and walls as well as the exposure of the pipes and ceiling. Felt concern that the ceiling or exposed pipes will leak on me every time the unit above me flushed or showered and can't really make stink about it as I'm visiting. A guest should be able to rest and enjoy their visit without being disturbed by fellow neighbors. Also cleaning staff could do a bit better. Upon turning over my sheeting for bed on day 1, found a long strand of hair on the sheets I also was not expecting exposed cemented floors

My boyfriend and I had a lovely stay at the Kestrel! It is close to the metro station and therefore very close to everything downtown. We were able to completely navigate the downtown area quite easily without a car. It's also walking distance to Reading Terminal Market, Macy's, and City Hall. The room was very clean and had everything we needed.

Had a wonderful stay and can't wait to return on our next trip to Philadelphia! Great to have space to spread out and feel at home at the end of our 2-week trip to DC and Philadelphia. We stayed in the Reading Viaduct and it worked well for our son who uses a wheelchair to sleep in the bed under the stairs with my husband and I in the loft. The bathroom is large and has a step in shower. I recommend reserving the parking space next to the building. It was rainy, drizzly every day of our trip so tended to drive more than we were planning. It's within walking distance of so many places though if you're there on less soggy days!

We had a wonderful stay. Centrally located, well appointed and the coffee press and grinds were amazing. As mentioned in other reviews, the sheer curtains do not block the city street lights or morning sun. We still highly recommend this apartment yet be aware.

Outstanding! We came for a concert at the Met but I did not want to leave this adorable, beautifully appointed room.

Beautiful and clean. Coming from New York, the room is spacious and 3x the size you’d get for a room at the same price in Manhattan - and with a kitchen and a full-size fridge!
