"Don’t pass up an opportunity to stay here!"

Everything you need is at the Lodge. Hiking safaris, sunset boat cruise, guided fishing trips, waterfalls etc. The staff are extraordinary, very friendly and helpful with everything. They have a translator guide who speaks several languages quite well.

"Exceptional"

10.0

My friend and I had an amazing time at Ponta Poranga! The property is safe, secluded, and emphasizes the nature beauty of the Amazon rainforest. We could not have been more pleased with our accommodations and the service we received. We desired a peaceful vacation and got exactly that. In addition to the beautiful property, there were also tons of excellent activity options off property that we took advantage of. We enjoyed the waterfall hike, river safari, canoe trip, and visit to a nearby indigenous village. The lodge planned everything for us, so it was very relaxing and fun. Food at the lodge was also fresh and delicious! Our favorite part of the trip was our guide Gabriel. Gabriel was the most genuine, pleasant, polite, attentive, and helpful person we met in all of Brazil. We thoroughly enjoyed his guidance and assistance throughout the trip. He made everything so fun and special! Thank you to Gabriel and the whole staff for a wonderful vacation!

"A Lovely Nicely Run Comfortable and Remote Hotel That is a little out of the way for some activities"

10.0

The hotel and its surroundings are fantastically beautiful. The rooms are very comfortable, if a little basic and the outdoor spaces around the rooms are great. There isn't really a restaurant per se, but there are a number of places around the property where you can have breakfast and dinner and the food is excellent. There is not a big selection of drinks, especially alcohol. If there are particular drinks you like, even beer or wine or any hard booze other than capirxhinas, you need to bring your own. But the juices provided were fresh and there is plentiful bottled water. The staff could not be friendlier or more helpful - although other than our guide who the hotel found for us, hardly anyone speaks anything other than Portuguese. The hotel offers a number of tours and the ones that are in the vicinity of the hotel are fun and interesting and easy. (See below for the only problem regarding this.) Paddling around in a canoe through the surrounding watery passageways through the jungle was great and our guide, Daniel, was incredibly knowledgeable about everything we were seeing and hearing.

The selection of tours was slightly misleading. Our paddling around the area in a canoe during the late afternoon was great and interesting and fun. The next day we wanted to go on the offered tour to waterfalls. What the information doesn't make clear is that it is about 2.5 hours each way by boat and then by car to the area where the waterfalls are. (That's five to maybe as much as six hours roundtrip.) It is considered an eight to nine hour tour. The photos of the waterfalls are beautiful, but something to consider is that Manaus is a big city - about 2.4 million people - and the weather is hot and humid. Any beautiful waterfall that is relatively easily accessible from the city is going to be developed - with concession stands and restaurants and vendors - and is likely to be at least somewhat populated with other day trippers. If you want to get to some of the more beautiful waterfalls that are pictured, that are surrounded by jungle rather than by developed recreation areas, that will require hikes of anywhere from two to three or more hours roundtrip once you get to the trail leading to them, leaving very little time at an actual somewhat remote waterfall. For a day trip it just isn't reasonable from the Lodge. If the famous waterfalls in the area are a main focus of interest, I would suggest finding somewhere to stay closer to Presidente Figueiredo which is the small town in the middle of that area. As is, we spent close to 5-1/2 hours in the car and boat and went to three attractive but not fabulous water recreation areas that were not really - other than in the broad sense - in the jungle; and it cost us about US$350. We didn't take any other tours, so it's hard to know how they compare with that.

"Once-in-a-lifetime adventure. Surprising comfort. Kind staff. Highly recommend!"

9.0

We loved our stay! Cabin/deck were huge, beautifully located with a view of the river. Property is gorgeous, quiet, and isolated, carved out of the jungle after a 30 minute boat ride into a tributary. Amazing. Room was comfy. Fridge, temperature-controlled shower, good a/c at night. Surprisingly few mosquitos. Guided experiences near the property were cool, including canoeing to a nearby village at dusk and canoeing/hiking to a small waterfall where we could swim (watch out for fire ants!). Food was simple, delicious, and filling. Breakfast: breads, cheese, ham, eggs, fruit, fresh fruit juices, coffee. Lunch/dinner: choose between fish, steak, or chicken, served with farofa, rice, fries, fresh juice. Option to have meals served in the small restaurant or by candlelight at one's room. Water provided. Staff was wonderful and kind. Our FAVORITE part was Daniel, our English-speaking guide for river safari/canoeing trips. Enthusiastic and kind. Excellent English. A lifetime of experience in several different parts of the Amazon made him a fountain of valuable knowledge. He made sure we were well taken care of. LOVED him!! The river safari was the highlight, esp. with Daniel's guidance about plants/animals. Unmissable. Private tour on a small boat. We could not just see but TOUCH the meeting of the waters (much better than the more touristy group tour my partner took years before). I couldn't believe how many animals we managed to spot (several bird species, macaws, a sloth, 3 kinds of monkeys, iguanas, 2 kinds of dolphins, pirarucu--just wow). Absolutely loved this place. Highly recommend.

Honestly, we LOVED everything, so listing things as "dislikes" feels silly -- but some info that may be helpful for other travelers: Only alcoholic beverages on the property were (delicious!) caipirinhas, which weren't included in the price. Glad we brought our own wine. More drink/snack options on site would be helpful. With the heat, more fans in the restaurant area and on our deck area would have been nice. Lights and a/c in the room can only be used at night, which we didn't mind at all, but is good for visitors to know. Given that one can do similar tours for much less money if one is based in Manaus, the value could maybe have been a little better--but we LOVED the location and the staff and would visit again if we could manage the cost. As medium-fit 40-somethings, we had no problems with the physical aspect of the trip, but most tours would be difficult for those with physical challenges, as it involved climbing in and out of boats and medium-strenuous hiking. Definitely recommend bringing galoshes, hiking sandals/boots, & sweat-wicking pants/long-sleeved shirts for the hikes! For English-speaking travelers: Few staffers speak English, but a translator was included in the cost. One exception: the highlight of the Presidente Figueiredo waterfalls tour was the local guide on the cave hike, but if we didn't speak Portuguese, we wouldn't have been able to enjoy his expertise.

"Lovely Amazon Retreat"

10.0

Lovely spot to explore the Amazon away from the maddening crowds. No fuss, just booked, they sent me a list of activities, I told them what I wanted and my main guide Ismael figured things out from there. I really appreciated how all of the guides, including Jonas and Captain, listened to what I wanted and didn't rush me through experiences the way typical tour companies sometimes do. I got to go at my own pace and really soak in the feel of the rivers and the jungle, along with learning lots of interesting facts and taking lots of great photos. Food was great, too. Definitely have both kinds of fish, caught locally, of course :)

"A Tranquil Oasis in the Heart of Nature"

10.0

Ponta poranga jungle lodge in the Amazon. A Tranquil Oasis in the Heart of Nature Location: The hotel is beautifully situated in a remote part of the Amazon, surrounded by vibrant wildlife and towering trees. It’s the perfect destination for anyone looking to immerse themselves in nature. The proximity to the river also adds a magical touch, allowing for stunning views and the option to explore via boat. Accommodation: The rooms are rustic yet comfortable, offering all the essential amenities without taking away from the natural experience. I stayed in a bungalow with a panoramic view of the rainforest, which made waking up each morning feel like a dream. Despite being in the heart of the jungle, the rooms were clean and well-maintained, with comfortable beds and reliable electricity. Service: The staff at Greg Hotel were exceptional. They were friendly, attentive, and knowledgeable about the area, always eager to share insights about the wildlife and local culture. Whether arranging a guided jungle trek or a riverboat tour, they went above and beyond to make sure every aspect of the stay was memorable. Dining: The food was fantastic, with a variety of local dishes that allowed us to experience authentic Amazonian flavors. Overall: Greg Hotel in the Amazon is an excellent choice for anyone seeking an authentic rainforest adventure without sacrificing comfort. The combination of stunning natural beauty, warm hospitality, and a range of exciting activities makes it a must-visit destination. I highly recommend it for nature lovers, adventurers, or anyone looking to disconnect from the modern world and reconnect with nature.

I wish the WiFi would work but again it’s the Amazon and it help me immerse my self even more in the area.
