"Nice place to stay-would stay again."

8.0

Great location. Close to several good resturaunts. We were in the Moana room. Clean, fridge, microwave, nice bathroom, comfy bed. Views were great from the pool area. Pool was nice. We were busy seeing things around the island so we did not use many of the amenities. Saw the Inn keeper when we checked in but other than that, noone was really around. Very private.

Excellent location. There is a bee farm nearby, that was fascinating to visit, and a great snorkeling beach down the road. The pool was great. The hot tub was not very hot while we were there, but I believe they were working on fixing that. The room had a great outdoor area for dining and lounging.

"Beautiful setting close to Kealakekua Bay"

10.0

Less than a mile up the road from Kealakekua Bay. Beautiful, quiet setting. Cool salt water pool and hot tub overlooking the bay. Do plan to either kayak or do an outrigger canoe at the bay at the bottom of Napoopoo Rd. We saw whales, spinner dolphins leaping, a manta ray and lots of colorful fish at the Captain Cook monument. Be aware to go most places besides the bay you have to go up Napoopoo Rd for about 4 miles on a windy, uphill road.

We stayed 12 days at Luana inn. The room was great and had sufficient kitchenette amenities The inn keeper Diana and her husband were wonderful! If we needed anything they were right there! The hot tub was great and always on and good temperature. We did not use the pool as it was cooler than I would want. I loved the location and the views were incredible! We would stay here again and recommended this place to anyone staying on the Big Island

"Comfortable, quiet, and beautiful location"

10.0

We spent three days at the Luana Inn and would have been happy staying longer. The suite was comfortable and the area was quiet and gorgeous. We sat in the hot tub twice, watching the sun set over Kealakekua Bay - fantastic. We enjoyed having the suite with the living room area and a kitchen. But there are also regular rooms. The area is also wonderful and there are a lot of things to do and see in the area.

"A Private Paradise"

10.0

Luana Inn was everything we hoped and more. Very clean and fantastic views! It is private with a coded gate. There is a saltwater pool and hot tub after a day of snorkeling down the hill. Diana and Yussef were wonderful hosts. Anything we needed was available. Mark was helpful as well, giving good advice on beaches in the area. Best of all, this was affordable for us. Highly recommend!

We loved this Inn. The amenities were great including the private patio, hot tub with lights, and campus for night time star gazing. The host we super friendly. She brought us whatever we needed. They had a great collection of books for borrowing. This Inn was super close to some of the best snorkeling in all of Big Island.

"2 Night Stay in South Kona"

8.0

We didn't want to stay at a resort closer to KOA airport but rather looked for something with more character, a killer view, and something more romantic as we overlapped our stay here overlapped our anniversary - I think it delivered for the most part of what we are looking for but there are definitely areas for improvement here and with the new inn keeper Sheila I can see how they can get addressed as this property has a "killer potential"! Location: you are about 45m easy scenic drive south from the KOA airport - you can explore the west of Big Island from here but I suggest using this location to explore the near coffee farms (there is sooooo many of them!) and otherwise staying closer to the airport if you want more beach/restaurants options as driving once in a day 45m to the airport is one thing but if you go any more further up from here each day it's 1.5h at the very least round trip so that adds up pretty fast and there are much better things to do on this unique island that burning time in the car for nothing :) we planned our trip around the island with 3 nights in Hilo and the last 2 nights in Captain Cook - it worked out perfectly with the Volcanoes National Park on the day of the hotel change - otherwise from this hotel or anything west coast it's a much longer and slower drive (curves, couple small towns with school) which would take you about 1.5h drive - this area is perfect for Kona Coffee farms, and for that it worked out perfectly as planned :) Hotel Grounds: Luanna Inn is a basically a beautiful private property turned into a villa rental with individual units - so everyone has their own room, bathroom, separate entrance to the room but there are common grounds like gardens, beautiful swimming pool, tables/loungers, steam room (looked brand new), inside space with books etc. - it's a somewhat homey feeling even though there is no actual usual service - Sheila is the inn keeper and she is there to answer your questions but don't expect a check in lobby/desk etc. you communicate with her about your arrival and she provides you all the necessary info - the view is a killer from here and even though on the 2 nights we stayed it was cloudy and we didn't get to do any stargazing (as hoped for... what can you do... can't blame nature!) we still enjoyed the sunsets! There are parking spots for the guests and getting in and out of the property is by the code/remote opener (you get to use the latter during your stay) Room: we had the Moana room - which is I believe the only room (except I want to say for one in a completely separate building that holds another room/villa) not on the swimming pool side (+ of course the 2nd floor one right above it) - so you get less "traffic" if you want to just chill and take in the views in more private environment (not like it ever got crowded at a pool... you just get to meet some people there and sometimes it's a good... or a bad thing for some as well) - we were able to access the room as soon as we turned the corner from our designated parking spot so we never bumped into any people really - which is exactly what we wanted for since like I said we chose those this place to overlap our special date and wanted to be left to each other, whether inside or outside the room :) as to the room inside it has all your needs and wants - though here is what could improve; the shower!!! It's a nice property but the showers cabins and the bathrooms just didn't "fit" the rest. There are some shutters and you will have from time to time a guest - either a mosquito... or a lizard :) there is no way to get rid of the latter... so we slept for 2 nights knowing one is hiding "inside/behind" the furniture around microwave where the gap is - there is no way you can get these guys out, you won't catch them - I once was able to wait for it and then "scare" it away to the window level in the bathroom (there are no doors to bathroom, you just walk into it) and I couldn't see it any after... it returned the next day :) to the same spot... my wife was obviously thrilled about it... but even I must admit I felt uncomfortable as usually I can somehow get these guys out of the room but here there is just too many places they can squeeze in... well don't forget it is a tropical island... and for the record this is nothing the hotel can do about so I don't blame them for it... the A/C was pretty loud and the room wouldn't hold the temperature for a long time after we turned it off and left on automatic each time it kicked in you would wake up Swimming pool: with the killer view this pool is an absolute highlight of Luana Inn - this is where you will spend your time while chilling on the property, the pool is super refreshing after a day of exploration and to have a view like this = a win win! what else can I say, check the pictures - definitely this is the biggest seller of this property Things to do: coffee farms!!! there is supposedly 400 Kona coffee farms just on the island of Hawai'i - we visited 5 of them and they were all different and all pleasant! The Place of Refuge is also an easy drive near by - I would say a must if in this area of the island, otherwise probably wouldn't drive just for it from further away. If you go to Kailua Kona Kona Brewing is a good stop, the 12th Distiller in the same area was a fun activity on also a rainy day, and if you go closer to the airport you have the Salt Farm, Octopus Farm, Sea Horse Farm and many other interesting things all in one particular area. Overall: I enjoyed the 2 nights stay but also I was ready to go once we woke up the final morning to catch our very early flight - I think this place is really good but could be great; just add some coffee/water in the morning in the "common area" inside the main building, provide some beer/wine for sale so a person can enjoy them while watching a sunset, I believe you can do a breakfast upon request or a dinner but that's in a far advance rather than a guaranteed option each day - otherwise it's not a super easy fast drive to get anything around here and bringing it all yourself to the room may work for some, but not the others - for me I can see myself not leaving this property as much as we did had some of this been part of Luana Inn - who knows maybe under Sheila's new "guard" some of these things became a standard/available for future guests
